first tope this year

#1 Post by concancook »

People:me the da and the son

Duration:8am 4pm

Tide:

Weather:good

Bait:mack

Rigs:all sorts

Results:macks dogs tope cod

Report:we tried a few more marks around the bay rather than go on out to the banks
we got alot of dogs and a couple of small cod around dalkey island.the slack water was at 330pm so we anchord on the outside of the frazer bank in about 16 meters .we were hoping for a ray but to our surprise we got a massive tope run ,a great scrap for around 20mins and we got it onto the boat .it was just short of 40 lb and a male fish .i think its my biggest tope to date so happy enough :D

Fair play to you .Nice to see a decent fish in fairly handy travelling distance.Has to be better than heading for the Kish or Burfort for a few dogs.I dossed around Bulloch Island with the young lad for mack and Pollack on sunday as I was doing taxi after dropping wife and girls out to Dalkey Island for a picnic.

Lovely looking fish man, well done,

I see your using what looks like the same type of rod rest/holder as I have so I thought I would give you a little warning,

I got mine off the internet and thought they looked good but I wasn’t that confidant with them so while the rod sat in them I hooked a bungee rope to the reel - just in case,

I had the rods facing outward and the holder was in much the same position as yours is in the picture, I seen a slight bend come in the rod and just as I got to it the top half of the holder snapped off but lucky for me the rope held it just over the side,

Just thought I would let you know in case it cost you a rod and reel and maybe a big fish too,
