Enniscrone Co SLigo - 16th and 18th August

#1 Post by drseafish »

People:myself

Duration: 1st session 3hrs, 2nd about 2hrs

Tide: far from prefect

Weather: wet and miserable on the 1st session, tropical on the 2 nd session

Bait: sandeel and mackeral strips

Rigs: 3 & 2 hook flappers and wishbones

Results:
Session 1 - 3 flounder
Session 2 - blank

Report:
I managed to get a couple of sessions in when up there last week. I wasn't that well prepared and only managed to bring up sandeel and mackeral as bait, would have like some fresh lug and crab but didn't have the time to get it.
I fished two rods, the beach was unfishable due to weed but it was possible to fish from the promenade end. The first session was miserable with incessant rain, but as dusk approached I got one hell of a bite on the rod at distance and thought that I had a sea-trout or bass, but I wound in to find a beautiful flounder at 42cm. This was some fish from a beach and was around the 2lb mark. I fished on and had a another small flounder 10cm on the same rod to casts later followed by a 36cm flounder on the rod fished into the little surf that was around (very calm and no surfers). I packed up in the dark as my headlight failed, but happy to have caught two very decent flounder.
The second session was in daylight fished over full tide (although a very low neap tide) in bright sunshine. It was more of away to escape from the kids for an hour or so, thus conditions were far from ideal. I fished off the rocks to get away from the weed, surfers, bathers and snorklers! Anyway not a bite, but I had some good casting sessions and managed some good distances that I hadn't achieved in a while.

Overall not bad fishing.

that was a nice flounder u got there.enniscrone is a funny beach to fish to be honest.i live not too far and always tend to put it on da long finger.during the day u can get seatrout there .maybe the odd small turbot or brill.it certainly fishes better at nite for flounder.ur 42 was a lovely fish.surfers are commo0n there when the surfs up so nite is the best time at all times.there is very few days in da year that there is no surf there.weed is torture sometimes too..the pier can produce as well sometimes
