French anglers catch and kill 9 Bass off of Inch last week
A french "angler" who has been living in this country for about yrs an is well aware of Bass conservation laws had a visit from another french buddy of his last weekend. The two of them headed off down to Kerry to fish marks they have learned from Irish guys. Between the two of them they caught, landed and killed 9 Bass. Two fish approx 9lbs each, fish to 6, 5, & 4lbs an schoolies. They then sold some of these Bass to local people for 40 euro's each. This same guy works edit and makes plenty of money as it is. His words " It was a good price, it paid for the diesel down and a few pints". Id love to name and shame the guy and give you all his mobile number but I dont know the legal ramifications of doing that. To say im disgusted by his actions would be putting it lightly. Disrespectfull little shitbag. He has the cheek to ask for information on Bass marks and then act in this manner. The same guy was telling me last week how his girlfriends father had the Salmon nets on the river that runs through their land in Kerry and had several fish in the net and saw no problems with this either!!! Selfish disrespectfull people.

Am I allowed to swear
There is no excuse for this sort of thing to be going on these days but still it keeps happening, time, after time, after time, again, again and again! There's enough signs out telling people of the limits and laws regarding bass fishing on all our beaches all around the country and espicailly down in Co.Kerry, they are on every beach but yet some people think that they are above the law and just simply ignore them, this makes me very angry. Greedy selfish, ignorant people that's all they are.

Totally sickening to hear, even worse to see.Was told a story a while back about two of these type of "ANGLERS" fishing on a riverbank and two local boys came along and stopped where they were. They had seen them from a short distance catch a very small fish and instead of releasing it they threw it live into a large plastic bag, when they reached these two they asked had they caught much and the two nodded and so the boys looked into the bag and the blood boiledMikeQ wrote:A french "angler" who has been living in this country for about 9 yrs an is well aware of Bass conservation laws had a visit from another french buddy of his last weekend. Re: French anglers catch and kill 9 Bass off of Inch last week
we can be annoyed ,shocked, pi--ed off, and all of those things but why bother.even if he was caught by the fisheries lads he would just pull the "i no understand" card. why are we up in arms? is it because its bass? what about all the juvinile
fish our foreign friends take from the harbours and all along the coast 2 and 3 inchs long. they have cleaned out the two dublin canals of all species. the tackle shops in cavan wont serve them because of them emptying the lake they freeze them and then sell them to there compatriats here. there like land trawlers. some of the charters have refused them because they refuse to put anything back no matter what the size.i know personally agroup of lads that walk the canals they take there keepnets and release all there fish back in to the canals.they then call the garda and claim theve been a vicitim of a racist attack just because they were thrown in.and the fish released.for god sake they eat the swans as well what chance does the bass have

Re: French anglers catch and kill 9 Bass off of Inch last week
I didnt report him cos I found out the day after so what was or is the point. If it was up to me he wouldnt be able to show his face around a fishing venue in the country, just the way in which it was done, for money, this guy is making plenty of money but thats not enough. He cries out about what english lads have done to the fishing in France but then he thinks he has the right to kill about 150 combined growth years of Bass!!! Im raging, im not letting this go. Im going to blacken his name in every fishing shop and with every angler that knows him. Let the lads know exactly what kind of a piece of crap they have in their company! Miserable edit thinking he can do that in a country where is only a guest!!! Lads keep any info you have on marks to yourself cos you dont know who you are talking to. Its sad it has to be that way but what other choice have you got.

Re: French anglers catch and kill 9 Bass off of Inch last week
hey hey i can guarantee u that he is not the only one at it.majority of the people doin this is not the irish people but the foreigners and then when caught they say they no understand.u wana see sum of the stuff i seen them taking in at bulloch harbour.omg it wud make u sick and i mean really sick.im not sayin they r all like this.bass has a required law of 2 fish per angler and longer than 44cm[correct if im wrong].and when there was a bass ban for a month a few months back im convinced there was thiefs fishing for them still while the bass was being respected by the majority.every1 needs to repect the laws but its hard to due that wen different people have different ideas.the county councils have tendered to the department of the marine for the allowance of signs in all languages to be installed at beaches and headlands.these shud include the fishing laws in all languages so people get the law into there head before goin to their fishing mark but sum how im not still sure if they will repect the laws

It is still an offense to sell Irish wild bass - no matter when it's reported, even if it is too late to prosecute him this time, just make the authorities aware of his illegal activities, where and when, his name etc. He will be paying the price for this sooner or later.MikeQ wrote:I didnt report him cos I found out the day after so what was or is the point.

Re: French anglers catch and kill 9 Bass off of Inch last week
Thats sickening to hear blood boiling in fact,i hope this guy does'nt fish back here in cork.As i've said before and will say again these people are worse than the illegal netsmen that plunder our fish stocks. Thanks for reminding me why myself and many others have stopped posting fishing reports as has been said too much info is given out in good faith only to be abused by a small minority.
Name and shame Mike but to the authorities first see what response you get,no harm in giving them a heads up to watch for this kind of activity, then fellow anglers who might meet up with him in his travels and might be able to get him to mend his ways
Interestingly enough another french chap back here in east cork saw no problem longlining pillmore a few years back for bass to sell ,plenty of locals saw him at it but stayed stum, differant times ,he has'nt been seen recently down there
More than likely got someone else nearby to NET a few for him
Tight lines

im for conservation of bass stocks as much as the next person, but, reading some of the posts here- and maybe its just the colourfull language but, jesus lads calm down!
if one was to throw someone in river because they didnt like the size of the fish they were catching..well....they'd be a bigger tool! and completely in the wrong.. you cant just assault someone on account of what they catch when they go fishing!
plus.. highlighting the anglers nationality?
what the hell does that have to do with it?
do we really need anymore racism in the country
and to be honest, 2 angles fishing over a weekend..2 each over 2 days..
that means they landed 1 fish illegally..
if they were fishing over 3 days..thats 3 fish under the limit.. either way...
its not like the dudes bagged 50 fish..

its not like the dudes bagged 50 fish.. .......... maybe you dident read the posts right theyve managed to empty the biggest lake in cavan and the two canals in dublin.the lads on the canal are all coarse anglers so every thing they catch goes back to fight another day.these foreign anglers take out and eat everything even roach. now there is none left ,a lot of them have taken up harbour fishing . im sure if you have fished any of the harbours around ireland you will see these guys opearate. and i think you might change your opinion . pollock codling wrasse all about 3 inches would that not upset you?taken and killed remember our harbours are nurseries to alot of species.if they are lost there the whole circle is broken
i certainly dont condone violence but i dont blame the lads on the canals doing what they are doing

Come down to Wicklow Harbour and take a look mate..sickening..its not bass that need protecting, it's every fish...I saw a guy catch a 20-25cm Gurnard, he was afraid to pick it up..poked it...prodded it....wouldnt touch it....but he managed to get it into his Lidl bag to bring home....I mean...when you see lads eating fish they are afraid to pick up and dont know what it is...sure you may aswell throw your hat at it...
Tried to explain but was met with the "no speaky the English" reply...

Racism??? hahaha dude, do me a favour. Its not racism, its fact. If they had been two Irish anglers i would have said that as well so give the racism carry on a rest. Also the fish were landed all on the same day so you are drawing conclusions which are incorrect. The Bass were caught on the first day they arrived off of a mark which had been shared with the angler in confidence. Complacent anglers like you make me sick. Lets just let these people do whatever they please and not try and change things. After all, we dont want to offend anyone. Your powers of deduction (haha!) failed to catch the fact that money changed hands which is also against the law. Id say you could fit what you know of Bass fishing on the back of a beer mat!!!! If you want to be all nicey nicey, then go ahead, the rest of us will face up to our responsibilities as anglers and TRY to make things better for us and also the tourists, including the french who are superb bass anglers , that pay their hard earned money to fish for Bass in Ireland.funkyflounder wrote:im for conservation of Bass stocks as much as the next person, but, reading some of the posts here- and maybe its just the colourfull language but, jesus lads calm down!

Re: French anglers catch and kill 9 Bass off of Inch last week
as i have highlighted this before. this slaughter of juveinile fish would not be tolerated in any other country.harbours are the nursery for most species. there numbers were never at risk because all of the anglers fishing them would release small fish back ,unharmed .its where most of us were brought as kids to catch our first fish.thus giving us a passion for the sport we are now addicted to.in the canaries [where i have resided] you are not allowed near the harbours with a fishing rod by law for the same reasons as its deemed to be a fish preserve.if our harbours are not protected from the onslaught its now getting.your children might never get the same thrill you got with your first fish as they just wont be there.when this happens you will see a lot of these so called anglers develop a taste for crabs as thats all there will be left to fish for

Re: French anglers catch and kill 9 Bass off of Inch last week
Well the first thing I would say is that I'm ashamed that they are French.
The second thing is that I'm a little bit scared by the very strong publicity made around nationalities of offenders more than the offense itself.
I'm aware that a lot of offenders are foreigners but you will find a good number of Irish as well .
As you can guess, I'm French myself (sorry nobody is perfect
), I'm living in Ireland for a certain numbers of years now.
I love fishing, I love the sea and I love fish (alive) ... All the people I fish with (Irish) will told you (I hope) that I'm respecting laws, fish ect ...
This little story only to highlight the fact that I'm worried to be annoyed on the beach only because as a foreigner I'll be shown as a killer ... Are you going to ask me my passport when bumping on me on a beach?
Come on guys, there is scumbags in every nationality ... You need to go over the nationality stuff.
Only an enforcement of the law with big fines will start to change things.
We need to ask control of not only "anglers" but also the fishmongers who buy the fish ... These are the first culprit by encouraging the slaughter with greed.
We, not as a nationality, but as a community: Anglers.
Even in C&R you will find fish killers ... How many photos of bass have you seen cover in sand, or with people with fingers deep in the gill ? ... This mean 3 things: the fish has been unhooked in the sand (while wriggling on the beach it get too much san in its gills), dragged on the beach from the surf line to the angler tripod (eating half a pound of sand at the same time) or dropped ... Yes it will be released only to die a couple of hours after ...
How many pikes are dead because unhooked improperly?
Saving fish stocks and our passion will not be done through throwing stones on foreigners but only with education and repression.

Hi
I was looking up bait ties and came across your post, I walk that beach most days and fish it once a week(3 minutes from home). I would be surprised if they sold the fish between Inch an Keel. But anyway, for what it is worth, I will try to keep an eye out for this.
That spot is not really a secret even some online guides mention it. However fishing there this year has been poor enough in comparison to others spots I was thinking. Two 9lbs bass is not to be sniffed at though.
