Glenarm, Co Antrim, 18/08/10

#1 Post by Drew »

People: Harry McKee Snr, H McKee Jnr, BigStan, Dan, Bingham, Drew

Duration: 8pm - 11pm

Tide: Dropping

Weather: Lush! Raining everywhere but on us!

Bait: Lug, Mack, Herring, Squid, Rag, etc etc

Rigs: Each to there own!

Results:

1. H McKee Jnr / 2. H McKee Snr / 3. Drew McMinn / 4. Andrew Bingham / 5. Dan McMinn / 6. Stan McN

Report:

Where do I start? The beginning I suppose! Got to Glenarm for 7.30pm and while we were setting up we saw various Sea Trout throwing themselves out of the water. Great to behold such a thing within casting distance. We drew pegs and we got ready to fish.

The match started and Dan got off to a storming start with a 34cm Codling which pulled his tripod over.... Followed by a double of 31cm Codling! It seemed like he was going to be the man to beat!

I was planning to sit it out for a doggie, but low and behold I had a 33cm Codling on a small Herring fillet! Everyone settled in and a few Codling showed early. Most of the cod bites were vicious with rods literally doubling as the fish took off with baits.

A good variety of fish showed for the rest of the night with some decent Pollack, a Few Rockling and Whiting all showing on the cards.

Great night and I cant wait to get back out with the lads!

We're heading up that direction for a camping & fishing weekend. Might give the beach a throw.

Do you think it'd fish during daylight?

It does but it's quite poor.

it goes out onto sand with small weed patches. should be fishing well during daylight now for flatties. can be amazing at times with double shots regular (a couple of years ago i run out of bait after many many flats and put the cooked ham out of my sandwiches on the hooks and made gentle casts. it worked for flounders lol)
also on the right nights in late summer - autumn the codling fishing can be stupendous. there have been many years that i was eating cod and chips for months afterwards. try a spinner from the beach and you should take a lot of codling and macks/blockan/sometimes salmon and sea trout
