Wexford Beach,23-7-10

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

,People:Myself, Fishface, Eric, Dfellah25, Gordy and Saltydog

Duration:me,,,,,6pm-12-45am

Tide:high about 8-30pm

Weather:beautiful, calm, mild, dry

Bait:mostly crab, i also had lug,and rag

Rigs:i hook clipped down for the smoothies, and 2 hook flapper

Results:smoothies all round!!,,,,,,also lots of doggies later with a smattering of plaice, gurnard, whiting and dabs

Report:Myself and Fishface were invited along by the lads to a beach where the smoothies had been showing recently so we were only too happy to arm ourselves with crab and take up the kind offer. It was a bit further south than we normally go but we didnt need to get passports renewed or anything  . I arrived on the beach at about 6pm to find the lads already set up with Gordon already having landed a nice smoothound  . Things were looking good and I wasnt long set up when Eric beached a nice smoothie ,,,,,,,followed a short while later by a larger one  . Fishface arrived and set up at the end peg  . I was hoping this session would cheer him up after his blank at Ennereilly the night before but I cant say too much about that as I'm not supposed to mention it  Oops too late now  .Not long after this we were all chatting in a group looking at our respective rod tips , when mine gave a nod  . I went over and lifted into the fish ,which was pulling back strongly  . In moments like these, and they dont come along that often, I go very quiet indeed ,,,,and am willing the fish to stay on the hook, especially as the lads were all looking on ,,,,,,,and the nearer to the beach he gets the more nervous of losing him I get  ,but thankfully he reached the edge without mishap and Eric lifted him up for me to enjoy for a few short moments before the obligatory snaps and he was sent on his way. I'm sure its the same for all the lads . Fishface got a massive pull on his Zippy and struck in ,,,,,,only to lose the fish half way in  ,he was gutted ,as he reckoned it was a well into double figures. He struck into a nice smoothie a short while later though . His line had crossed mine , and when we sorted it out and got to the rig at the end of the line I found another smoothie on what I thought was my rig. I got a photo with it and when we released it we realised that it had actually been on Neils other rod,,,,,,,,,he wasnt impressed  ,even after I let him get his photo taken with another one I caught a while later as his had been bigger   .Things went quiet for a while with the odd whiting, dab and a plaice for Conor(Dfellah),a first for him and identified by the bony nodules on the head. Saltydog arrived and was soon fishing away and into a smoothie. Everyone had smoothies at this stage except Dfellah but he was saving the best till last when he struck into the biggest smoothie of the session  .A fine fish it was and we all looked on enviously,,at least I did anyway  .Then the doggies arrived and we all had some sport with them .We packed up at 12-45am and hit the road, except for Saltydog who had 2 baits in the water when we left. It was a great session for everyone and i'd like to thank the lads for inviting me along,,,,,,,nice to meet Gordon also :wink:The lads can update their catches,
Dave

Excellent fishing lads , some cracking smoothies there. I'm raging I didnt give you a buzz Dave as I was actually out that direction myself last night after smoothies but only managed two between two of us and the one I caught was possibly the smallest smoothie I ever seen, ah well maybe next time.
