report; was itching all day to get away for a cast after work so had a session planned with grady in donegal but that all hindered after work cause i was to tired to face a 2 and half hour drive to his mark.i then texted gerry who was closer to me to see if he was up for as a cast.so we both agreed a time to meet.we went to ur first mark but we found it a bit hard to fish so we headed off to one of his marks.we had the rods out for nine and were waiting for about half an hour for our first fish which was a nice wee pollock to gerry.i had set one of me rods for a conger in which i got a massive take and i striked it but missed him.any way waited for another while and took in a a small pollock or 2 as so did gerry.we both then got on the dogs as the nite put its cloak on.then i reeled ina a double shot of a small pollock and a cod to which the 3 of us were surprised.baited up and casted again so decided to rebait my conger gear to which i realised that a conger had taken me bait and gone into his little home.i wasnt properly rigged for conger tonite as i didnt think id be fishing them.i had 20lb line on ,with 50lb shock leader and on to a skate trace which 30lb wire.it still done the trick thou.played with him for 15 mins and then i got lucky and got him out of his home.my scales is the best but he was just over 4lb.thanks to gerry he kindly unhooked him for me and showed me a few tips as this was my first conger.my nephew was over the moon.he had a nice job all nite puttin the fish back.we all got a few more dogs after that.we were hoping for some flounders and rays but there wasnt a sign of any of them.anyway was an enjoy nite bar the drizzly rain.was a pleasure to meet gerry and we will hook up again soon.headed for home at 1 as i had a 2hr drive ahead of me.the poor nephew conked it most of the way home.gerry has the pics

Nothing wrong with that session lads; wouldn't mind one like it myself. For what it's worth (unless you're casting far), I'd cut off the leader on the conger gear and fish 20lb straight through: leader knots are hostages to fortune when going for the congers, I've found.

Re: galway mark 23-07-2010
it was great to meet yourself and the nephew,I enjoyed that session, the craic was good,I am still laughing about the question the nephew asked about the car
I was delighted that you got the conger, its always great to get the target species on the night and it was great to see the cod at the mark as well
its a pity no ray or flats showed last night,we can arrange a session sometime at another mark that I know will produce plenty of ray
i am looking forward to a turbot session,we will have to try soon
here are some of the photos
