Tide: 1 hour before high
Bait: Bread
Method used: Float
Result: 1 mullet
Report:
With the weather forecast not looking too good for the rest of the week K2 decided to go out for a quick mullet session when it was still dry and quite pleasant outside.I was back at work and so I wasn’t able to join him this time
He arrived at the mark an hour before high tide, got his gear ready and began fishing.
There was a few fish about but not what there has been at other marks around the Lough that we have fished this year so it was going to be slightly more a challenge than it usually is but that’s what K2 enjoys the most about fishing for mullet, how unpredictable it can be.
Every session/day is different when you go out. Even at a mark you have been fishing regularly can change dramatically, you never know what you are going to be faced with from one day to the next. That’s also the reason why alot of people find it very frustrating and don’t like this type of fishing.
He began by throwing out some small pieces of bread to see if there was any fish about and to suss out if any that where there were feeding or not. A couple of fish hit his bread that was sitting on the surface of the water and so it looked quite promising and positive for the session ahead.
He was fishing for about ten minutes or so and after missing a good bite beforehand he hooked into and made contact with his fish.
And although not a particularly big fish compared to some of the ones he has caught over the past few weeks or so, it still gave him a good fight before he landed it successfully
As his personal photographer was stuck in work, he had to take his own pictures this time, which he did before returning the fish back in safely and unharmed.
With a flick of its tail it bolted off and K2 continued on fishing.
After that things went abit quiet with not many fish showing. They had moved up, got pushed further on up the channel with the tide as it approached high water.
He fished on for a while to see if anymore fish where going to make an appearance but they didn’t and so he just called it a day and headed for home.
A short but sweet session was had with yet another mullet caught from the Lough by K2.
He went back yesterday to the same mark and tried for them again but this time using his fly rod, he only got fishing for half an hour when the wind picked up and so he called it a day. He’s going to try it again very soon.
Below are a couple of pictures taken by K2 from the session including one of him fishing the same mark a couple of days previous.
