4 way beads help?
I have purchased some 4 way beads but im not sure how to fix them to the trace body. What knot should I tie and do I need beads between the knot and the 4 way bead?

Re: 4 way beads help?
if you use a stopper knot instead of the crimps or the overhand knot you can easily adjust the distance of the beads on the main trace body to the required length of the snoods so they won't tangle up.

Austrian, if you are going to the bother of using 4 way beads and fluorocarbon and the like, why on earth would you then go and add crimps to the trace? Defeats the purpose somewhat, you might as well add a swivel instead of the 4 way bead and have done with it. The knot you are looking for is called a figure of 8 knot, I'll see if I can find a guide and to stop it pulling through on finer snoods (its rarely a problem with the bodies) you should use tiny clear microbeads as a buffer from the 4 way bead to the knot.

Re: 4 way beads help?
I cant find them either! ive looked online and enquired in my local tackle shop but they dont have them. All I can find is coloured beads which defeat the purpose or the setup. Does anyone know a shop that stocks them or have a link to an online site which sells them?

Scara, they are pretty damn hard to find, using a small clear bead from Tronix at the moment as a substitute.

Re: 4 way beads help?
go into sowing shops, they will also sell sequins and the like for a lot less than the tackle manufactures.

Re: 4 way beads help?
Do these micro beads ever break under the pressure of larger fish? is there any advantage in using them over just using the figure of eight knot between the four way bead?

Re: 4 way beads help?
i agree with pete, it defeats the whole purpose of using these beads
to then add crimps.
i find if the mono diameter closely matches the size of the hole in the bead
a two turn overhand gives good strength.

Re: 4 way beads help?
i have devised my own knot called the jw knot
which seems to work
ok when there is a discrepency between bead hole and line diameter

Re: 4 way beads help?
Spot on JW. Here are some diagrams for the figure of 8 knot. http://www.google.com/images?q=figure+o ... CC8QsAQwAw
This is to be much preferred over a single overhand knot as it tends to wear better and also lies in a much straighter line when tied. If using slippy fluoro for your snoods, eg Tubertini Gorilla UC4, burn the tag end the other side of your knot with a lighter into a tiny blob. It takes less than a second with practise and adds a degree more security to your trace.

Re: 4 way beads help?
I just use the figure 8 knot on mine, and if the line dia looks too small for the hole in the two way bead, surely that means you need to use a smaller two way bead? Out of the three sizes available, I rarely use the biggest now at all.

Re: 4 way beads help?
I don't bother with crimps just form a loop and go trough twice, that probably is the figure of 8, ended up making booms for boat and shore using this method, landers in tralee did stock them.

Re: 4 way beads help?
Neat bit of rig tying there Sean. Matchstick booms can also be fitted the two way beads and Hiro do ones with microbore tubing.
