dalkey rocks

#1 Post by eric »

People: masterkeane, shaneh, jack01986, myself

Duration: 9-3am

Tide: full in at 1

Weather: calm ad mild

Bait: mack, lug and squid

Rigs: 3 hook clip downs and running ledgers

Results: dogfish, codling, whiting and conger

Report: lovely evening and good to meet up with an old friend, ice to see jack back fishing on the sea :D kicked off with a three hook clip down at distance messing around until it got a bit better for the conger tide and light wise. landed a few codling, a whiting and a couple of dogs, so was kept entertained. then it was time to go after what we came for.
one of shaneh's conger baits

soon after jack got the first nod of the night, a run from the ratchet alerted us to the first eel of the night. sadly after taking a bit of line the conger buried itself into its lair and it was game over. a few hours passed and after a bit of banter i got a good take, as i picked up the rod the ratchet started to go so i struck into the fish. after a fine fight i landed a pb conger of 16lbs. i was happy out. pulling a conger out of its lair with a match rod and the reel down the butt wasnt easy but i got it done, just about :P

after that i lost another, this time the tip of my my rod was just to forgiving and i could bully this eel out of the rocks so it stuck fast and i had to pull for a break. nice oul night

Well done Eric, that's a fine fish indeed. I keeps saying it every year but I must have a go for the congers myself.

As for that photo Denis, what can I say... this is a family site.
