Co Donegal pier 10.07.10

#1 Post by last cast lad »

People:me and mick

Duration:6.30-10.00pm

Tide:up and over

Weather:VERY WET

Bait:mackeral, lug

Rigs:pulley, flapper

Results:ME 2ray, 4doggies Mick 2 ray 6 doggies 3 grey gurnard

Report:had arranged to go out on sat evening but the weather was very wet, however the thread discussing the best fishing car could take note that since I use my work hiace for fishing we simply choose a venue we could park beside the rod stands, Arrived at our carfully chosen mark, parked up heading into the rain and stood under the shelter of the back raised back door  , much better than any other solution suggested on that thread, of course the only downside is your driving a hiace
Any back to the fishing, first cast I snapped off, and mick landed a pb grey gurnard at 37 cm :D , not sure what weight it was but seemed quite fat of himself, Then my first succesful cast landed a pb thornback ray, not overly long but again quite fat tipping the scales at 7lb 5oz :D Things were indeed looking good for the evening (as we sheltered under the hiace back door) there were the usual numbers of dogfish which are always welcome and one had unusual strippy, almost perch like markings. Mick landed another two gurnard 33+ 34cm, which , if all caught in reverse order would have given him 3 pb's in a row :!: He had a small ray about 3lb which really fought well kitting left and right as it was hauled in but unfortunately I dropped it as I went to carry it up out of the water, hooks fell out and away it went  I think he forgave me, though needing a lift home may have influenced him. All in all a very wet but rewarding session, which we finished early in heavy rain as the fishing slowed down as the tide began to drop

Great fishing. Was in Bundoran at rocks near Golf Course yesterday - BLANK. Then went to Mullaghmore Harbour, again - BLANK. Have you any tips on where we could go in the same area? :?: :?:
