bass heaven 30 june

#1 Post by plumster »

People:myself and eeler

Duration:10pm-2am

Tide:low 8.30pm

Weather:wet and windy

Bait:sandeel,rag,peeler

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:5 bass

Report:
arrived at the mark to find a great surf up so wasnt long till i had my first bait in the water ,while setting up the second rod ,the first one got pulled from the rest. so i grabed it and tightened the line but nothing there  , crap ,i even had a feeling id miss a bite while setting up the other rod .anyways things were looking very promising so now with both rods baited and in the sea all i had to do was wait, and wait  and about an hour later still waiting eeler arrives. thought i could smell chips in the air.
was only after he'd got his bait in the water that i hooked my first fish ,only a schoolie of over a pound but i was chuffed :D ,wonder could it have something to do with chippie fingers over there i thought, two minutes later eeler shouts fish  ,big one and its taking line ,and he was right ,it was a big one which took line three times ,finally in comes a beast of a fish ,a 9lb 14oz big one ,but then crap ,cant get the camera to work  so had to use a phone instead which are never great ,we'll see later when the little woman comes home to sort it out for me .but anyway back to what i thought about earlier ,definitly something to do with chippie fingers. must try that next time .
so with a bit of reviving the big cow of a fish swims away . after that eeler had two more at about 3.5 and 4.5lb while all i could do is take pictures for him  but then while snapping eeler in all his glory my rods ,rest and all hit the ground . i run over not knowing what to grab first until i see one of the rods pulling away so i grab it and tighten into a solid lump of kicking fish ,and soon after in comes another fine fish which makes my night ,a 6lb1oz cracker and i even managed to get the camera to work again
its been a while since i ended up soaking wet after a session but when your getting fish like that its worth it . :D

m8 super fish and for the ones that got away... great tip on www.irishbass.org newsletter this month...enjoy

'...several good fish taken on top water lures. This is a great way to catch bass but you must resist the temptation to strike at the first splash at the lure. Just keep on reeling until the line goes tight.'

best luck
