STRANGFORD MULLET round 2 tuesday 29th june

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me, dawsey, norman and john

Duration: 3pm - 6pm

Tide: HW 4pm

Weather: overcast but hardly a breath of wind

Bait: bread

Rigs: float and single size 8 hook

Results: 1 mullet for norman 4lb 11ozs

Report: with dawsey back from his hols we all decided to meet up for a wee afternoon crack at the mullet. we arrived at the mark to see norman and john had still to arrive, so got to fishing any how as there were some lovely mullet milling about in front of us. there was still a bit of a push from the incomming tide forcing the floating debris up the estuary. but we had confidence that once the tide turned it would all pass us by and be swept back out to sea. dawsey must have only had about a half dozen casts when his float shot under and he had a fish on!!. it shot about in front of us for about 20 seconds before his float shot out of the water and the mullet gave a splash of the tail before heading off a free fish  . now i've no problem with catch and release,,,, but dawsey man,,, seriously. you're sposed to get the fish outta the water before letting him go     . only kidding man,,,, i was gutted for you mate  . i honestly thought that after 20 seconds he must have been hooked good and proper :| :| :| but apparently not  . needless to say the air was filled with words i could not repeat in a report, but at least it ment they were feeding  :D . norman and john appeared and we told them about dawsey's lost fish and comiserations were passed and we all got to fishing again. there was no shortage of fish as loads passed us by, but john and i seemed to be at a spot where they prefered to just whizz by and started to feed at the spot norman and dawsey were at. and of course within about 30mins we heard norman give a yell and it was fish on :P . we all reeled in as norman's fish was tearing about in front of us from left to right and put up a spirited fight. it was amazing to watch as the mullet norman had hooked into also had another mullet shadow it's every move as if it was teathered to the one on the hook   . i've never seen anything like it as the 2 of them sort of did a bit of a wee dance under the water :P it was like synchronised swimming    . when the fish finally tired john did the honours and safely got it in the net, almost scooping up the mullet doing all the following   . we got it out and up onto the bank and it weighed in at 4lb 11ozs. not the regular torpedo shaped mullet we've see a lot of, but a bit of a porker   . we all gave norman a pat on the back and got a few pics and returned this cow back to the sea to do a bit more grazing    . sadly no one else even got a hook up for the rest of the session, but we'll be back and i'll get one of those sodding things yet    :D

Well done K2 – that’s another cracker of a mullet for you 8)
Great report again Al, it sounded like another head melting day with the mullet was had by all.
Again, I had to work and so I couldn’t join you’s which is a shame :(
I hear that J.Erskine did a good job netting the fish for K2 and not forgetting you Al, you have taken another couple of great pictures, thanks for that mate.
My job as K2’s personal net’s women, photographer and report writer might be under threat at this rate!
