West Waterford 27th May

#1 Post by Figs »

People:Just me

Duration:4-7pm

Tide:HT 7pm

Weather:Sunny

Bait:Lures

Rigs:

Results:1 Bass, 1 Seatrout

Report:

Got out for a few hours yeterday afternoon, Beautifull day but fair breeze was making casting plugs quite difficult. Fair bit of suspended weed was clogging up the lures too.
Had one follow early on a toby but I reckon a bit of weed on it put him off.
Tried the kilty for a while anyway to get out a bit futher and got a nice bass of abould 2lbs at distance. Next cast to the same spot got hit hard, fish leapt straight our of the water and went ape-sh1t on the surface, he put up a great struggle before I landed him and was chuffed to sea a lovely seatrout of about 2.5lbs. My first seatrout.

Initial joy was a bit diluted to see he was gillnet marked on both sides   , let him go after a quick snap anyway, hopefully he manages to keep out of the nets

Well done on the bass and your first sea trout.
Lure fishing was difficult at the weekend alright with the wind and lots of fine weed.
I gave lure fishing a good lash over the weekend without a result, so headed out to do some bait fishing last night and managed a chunky 6.5 lb bass and amazingly for the last week in June four codling as well   - I will post up a report later.
Cod season Winter 2013/14: 117 cod (best fish: 6.5 lbs)
Cod season Winter 2014/15: 193 cod (best fish: 4.25 lbs)

I tried the plugs for a while yesterday and found the same with the wind and weed. Fair play on getting a few fish anyway, nice sea trout. I gave up on the lures and hit the mullet instead.

Nice trout there Feargal, been struggling with that weed alright have had a few over the last few days nothing major, all around 2-3lbs, if the weed clears should be out for the rest of the week :D
Everyone should believe in something; I believe I’ll go fishing.
