Specimen Coalfish, Cobh 26th June 2010

#1 Post by Pat »

Species:

Specimen Weight:15 lbs

Irish record:15.1 Kg

Location:Cobh/Cork Harbour

Bait:Mackeral

Rigs:Shop bought rig

Report:Well done to Sandra O'Shea of Cobh SAC. Sandra caught this fine specimen coalfish while fishing the first competition of Cobh SAC's Master Angler Boat competition series. This fished weighed 20lbs when caught but registered 18.5lbs on a certified scales when weighed 6 hours later. What harm it's still a great fish, especially as it wasn't caught on a wreck  !!! No, this fish was caught from the Pollack Rock Reef, east of Power Head.

A superb fish, well done on landing it!
That area used produce big pollack and coalies years ago, great to see a big fish from there again.
(If Sandra can't go to the specimen awards then at least Danny will have something to collect :D :D :D)
