Inner Galway bay 25/6/10

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

People:Myself and smiliejp

Duration:2-9

Tide:high around 6ish

Weather:clear and calm with slight westerly

Bait:mack & squid

Rigs:various

Results:3 tope, whiting, poorcod, codling, short spined sea scorpion..

Report:
Met up with JP at the slipway, and headed out to a mark I have known about for some time, and used my phone satnav to find it.
We set a couple of drifts to see what we coud pick up, and thankfully mackerel made an appearance.. Fresh bait.. Out with the big hooks and on with half a mack and set the drift again..
There's nothing like the sound of an sl30sh ratchet screaming..
I had a very good run and as much as I tightened the drag the fish wasn't having any of it, then the line went slack :( I thought it broke the line until I reeled in and saw the hook was straightened  and this was one of them animal rig hooks...
After a couple more drifts we anchored up.. After a few more mackerel jp's rod started to bounce... Literally... Fish on, and this was also giving a good run, JP didn't realise the size of it until it came out of the depths, after a quick tailing into the boat and unhooking it was fun as the tope thrashed about the boat as someone was trying to lift it into position for a photo, wearing shorts and shark inboard is always funny to watch.. After a quick pic the fish was held in the water till it revived and then swam off happily.. After a while of lifting mackerel out we decided to move to a mark closer to the docks as time was not on our side.. Nothing produced but will try there again, good day out and good to meet someone who is willing to bring me out in exchange of a few marks, pics will be posted when on computer, sat in coffee shop with phone, the joys of technology eh, sat nav to find the mark and post up all about it here
