morriscastle 16/6/10

#1 Post by R D »

People; me

Duration; 9:30-11:30

Weather; seriously calm,warm

Tide; coming in

Bait; mackeral, worms

Rigs; 2 and 3 hook flappers

Results; 1 dogfish, 1 bull huss

Report; I headed down to morriscastle for a quick doggie session. I had just after setted up my rods when I realised I had forgot all my rigs so I had to run all the way up to the house to get them I was so drunk after that !!!!! When I got back I set up the traces as fast as i could ,I had two rods out with a very long three hook flapper with size 4 hooks on it and on it was a worm and mackeral cocktail and on the other rod I had a two hook flapper with size 2 hooks and I had big mackeral chunks on it. I flicked both rods out 60 yards or so and every cast I was getting bites on the two hook flapper and also the crabs were out on patrol !!!! My hooks were cleaned off but strangely enough the three hook flapper wasn't being touched. And on the last two casts i saw the rod move like a little flat had just took it so I waited for the bite to develop and i grabbed the rod and i started to reel in and the fish splashed on the surface all the way in for a second I thought it could of been a bass and then i finally reeled in a small dogfish of very close to 50cm on the three hook flapper . Took a quick photo and put it back in and again on the next cast with the same rig I got a slightly bigger bull huss and took a quick photo and put it back in, then I packed up just in time to see the world cup highlights in the comfort of the house.

Well done R D on catching your doggie and bull huss, at least having to going back for your rigs was worth it, you must have near died when you realised that you had forgotten them. I've done that myself before I'm not ashamed to admit, I've got down to a mark and realised that I left my reel in the house, nightmare!

I bet you where furious. It's easy done when you've so much gear to get organised to go out on a session. It could have been alot worse, imagine you had have driven a few hours away to a mark and then discovered when you got there that you had forgotten your rigs - now that would have been a a nightmare!
I see on your wish list for this year is a Tope, me too - I'm dreaming..........let's hope it comes true for us both this year
