Very Sad News Galway Bay SAC

#1 Post by saltydog »

It is with great sadness & a heavy heart that I have to inform you of the passing of our esteemed club treasurer & good friend to us all Ray Toner. After a sudden illness Ray sadly slipped away this evening. Being a founding member along with Peter Atkins in the re-establishment of Galway Bay SAC his tireless work rate, commitment & good nature will be sorely missed. Ray on behalf of us all thank you for everything its not going to be the same without you rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rays family and wide circle of friends.

I will pass on funeral arrangements when they are finalised.

Conor

i'm deeply saddened at the loss of a great friend. the definition of a true club man, without him we wouldn't have the club we enjoy now. my thoughts are with his wife carol and two kids raymond and rebecca. the little man will be sorely missed and may he rest in peace. pete atkins.

Shocking news, and deepest condolences from all at SAI-SAC to those he left behind. On a personal note, Ray epitomised for me the welcome what awaits a travelling angler out West. He was my pairs partner in the West Coast League this year and I had the pleasure of being pegged beside him on Lettergesh a few short weeks ago. The craic and the banter were fierce and he was a pleasure to fish with. Managed to get his pic into this months Irish Angler and I'm gutted he wasn't able to see it. RIP Ray.

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

When I saw the lovely tributes to Ray here, I felt the need to say how I feel. But I’m struggling to find any words. Just can't get my head around it.

I know everyone in the club will keep your flag flying. Farewell Papa Smirff. Thanks for your friendship and all the memories.

Rest in Peace Ray.

Martin.

Ray didnt post very much on this site but always knew what was going due to steve and myself always talking about it. The funniest trip we ever had and we had alot was this one - http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... =3&t=10045
Even with the sadness of the last few days thinking of that trip makes me smile and laugh. Every session with Ray was a funny one and I am soo happy to have had him as a one of the best friends a person could have. He will always be remembered.

Ray had a good send off today, I think he would have approved of the amount of alcohol that was imbibed in his honour! What a guy, Galway Bay SAC would probably not exist without him. One of the best guys I've ever met, always full of good humour, even if he couldn't cook to save his life

RIP Ray, we will never forget you
