just thought i let ye all know i came across a great book today in the cookery section of waterstones book shop in jervis centre, its simply called "sea fishing" and its by the aptly named "nick fisher" its a mixture of catching and cooking fish right from the start, its great if ur a novice or fishing for years,i have read about 30-40 books on fishing but this is now my bible, it tells you when to fish, where to fish and even puts into layman terms the meaning and consequences of tidal runs its easy to follow and understand and even tells you how to prepare and cook fish that is edible, incidently did you know that one of the most tasty fish in the sea is a "red gunard" now that knocked me for 6 i never thought they were edible never mind tasty , anyway its a great read and strongly recommended,one of the best and simplest book i have ever seen and so easy to understand for even an uneducated thicko like meself,it also has a section on rigs to use and when to use em, and the most likely fish to catch from shore,if ur looking for it ,its a green hardback with three well placed mackrel going across the front n back covers, and its a river cottage handbook, go for it i promise you its the next best thing to been out there, if you do pick it up let me know what you think, it costs 17.99e by the way

Nick Fisher I'm sure is the guy who takes Hugh F.W. fishing for bass in his boat in the River Cottage TV series. Seems to know his stuff all right, I'll have a look for that.

Red gurnard used to be thrown away by inshore trawlers as unsellable! We got them free for lobster bait, until I took a few fresh ones home and cooked them - been a big fan ever since. They have vicious pin bones but easy pulled out with long-nose pliers.

Between Nick Fishers "Sea Fishing" and the "River Cottage Fish Book", published 2007 by Bloomsbury Publishing, you will have the old and new testament on fish, fishing, fish preperation, and conservation. In the modern age the two best books on the subject.
