Thanks Pete,

I guess from what ur saying is choose ur tip according to tide conditions as apposed to weight, but use common sense with ur choice of weight?

I reckon I`ll have some craic with a double shot of Ballan on a double spreader, and a good Pollack on the gill if I can ever get the hang of it :D :D gilling that is.

Multiplier set up much better for gilling Bren as its possible to achieve a much slower, smoother retrieve. As for the tip selection, I have never had need to resort to a heavier tip than the lightest one provided with it and thats cast leads to 12oz with ease and no problem with any fish. It does take a little while to get used to using a quivertip but when you do, you wont look back....

Dont mean to be funny but why would you use a quivertip for tope and ray fishing? They arent made for that, they have the backbone to land the odd surprise but they arent a winching tool either, its not that they couldnt do it but it wouldnt suit them. Get a nice uptider like the Daiwa TDXU 2-8oz for that kind of thing.

Does Dan do the Gorilla Range? Any thoughts of this rod on a small boat. I currently use the Grauvell Etna and have to echo everything you have mentioned above. These Rods are a Joy to fish with and nearly everything puts a nice bend in them, which is even better.

Great rod ,I even use it with the deutchland pirk at cod n pollack. No problem taking the weight.Dan stocks both at a good price.

Savage piece of kit, I got one a couple of months ago had 3 trips out with it, does take abit of gettin` used to though had a little dab about 3/4lb shook the bejasus out of the tip thought it something better. Did hook up into a 5lb cod and that was hard work `cos of extra length in the rod, still recomend highly.

What model Baitrunner is the Shimano all the lads are bangin`on about?
I`ve fished with lads using them but never really took a look at one.
I`ve scrapped a few bob and a mate is goin`to the states so I was thinkin`of putting one of these on the shopping list.
Any info greatly appreciated

The Reel you want is the shimano big pit baitrunner LC, they are around the 200-240eu mark but i know that Tooman angling in carrick an shannon had them for 169eu, and you can get them for about 140str online
