fahan beach 9/6/2010

#1 Post by fishermannum1 »

People me and tom

Duration 10.30ish to around 2.15pm

Tide dropping and on the rise

Weather good but windy

Bait mack;/squid

Rigs pulleys and flappers

Results one mack; one thornie

Report meet up with tom for a few hours at fahan beach to wet a line and use up the old bait, tom was already set up on the beach when i got there, so i settled myself in just to the left of him. not a lot to report as it was very slow fishing, i tried baits at every distance but could not connect with anything at all, but tom pulled in a lone mackerel 8) fine feck!!!! fresh bait!!!! so rods were re baited and sent back out, we waited and waited  nothing!!! then tom got a decent nod on one of his rods, and he landed a nice ramond of around 7lb 8) 8) and sadly that was the last of the action. the wind had got stronger and the tide was now on its way in, and every cast we made resulted in something like a clothes line of weed, so we packed up and headed for home, fishing was bad but the crack and banter was priceless

Nice one Don & Tom, well done Tom on getting your ray, it sounds like perhaps you have Don to thank for that one. The fresh mackerel he caught and shared between the two of you seemed to make all the difference. As you said Don, you can't beat fresh bait 8)
Sounds like the weed was a nightmare  once that starts I go home or move somewhere else so you's where right just to pack up and go, it's very annoying when every time you reel your line in there's clumps of weed stuck to it. Once this happens a few times it's not worth staying on.

As you said Don the fishing was slow and the weed didnt help. That fresh mackerel made all the difference far outfishing the frozen and thawed out ten times stuff. The craic was as usual mighty. The only thing missing was the women to do the cooking for us.    Eyes you should get yourself a hat. It will soon become your lucky hat and you cant or wont go fishing without it and it looks good. Paula I put in a good word with Don for you so you should be ok hopefully. :D :D :D :D :D
Ya should a been here last week.

nice one lads. there is a hell of a difference between fresh and frozen mack alright. we'd been using the frozen stuff for so long i was surprised when i cut a bit of fresh stuff just how tough the skin was  , not soft at all. i really had to push the hook to puncture the skin. always a handy indication when you need to re-point your hooks too
