weather forcast

I can beat that...a month ahead!

In my humble opinion, getting it right for 3 days is a minor miracle.
Anything outside 5 days is often done by looking at historical trends for other years and copying that or taking your pick of any number of computer models. So about as accurate as tarot cards, ouija board or those 1800-tellyourfortune lines.

The one RMc mentions looks really interesting but I can't find the bit where it tells you how choppy it's going to be on Sligo Bay tomorrow !
I'm sure Sandman's comments are right . I used to know a senior forecaster from the Met Office in the UK . He showed me around the centre . Really impressive - huge screens + satellite pics and "cones of probability" ( what should happen , based on the computer models , I think , constantly being updated ). Great and apparently statistically quite accurate for trends and the general picture for several weeks ahead but he would never even bet a pint on what would be happening locally more than 3 days ahead . Funniest thing I saw was him walking home from the station one afternoon - best suit on , no hat/coat/umbrella ( don't do wellies there anyway ) - absolutely soaked to the skin
This one is pretty good . You can customise it ie put in your own co-ordinates and if you "search" you'll probably find loads of local ones that someone has already entered ( might have to subscribe to do that - about E24 / pa I think but you can do it for a short trial period , see how you get on ) . https://www.windguru.cz/int/wglogin.php ... lang%3Deng
I'm writing anonymously because I think the met office visit should have been a State secret . Everything else seems to be .

This only gives three days, but local wind speed and direction are covered:
http://theyr.net/cg/cny/I1ef9fa/F=js*v* ... *ie_Dublin.
I find it as optimistic as Met Eirann is pessamistic.

forecast - good for 2 weeks
Hi
Check the NOAA website on the links on the front page.
http://www.arl.noaa.gov/ready/cmet.html
Click on the map.
On the meteogram option, choose the forecast option you want.
Hit GO.
Select "default with winds" as the option (radio button) and scroll down.
Enter the code displayed in the mized boxes in the space provided.
This is to prevent computers reading the meteograms...
The metogram shows: -
Rainfall (green blocks)
Windspeed and direction (the more tails the windier it is)
Temperature at sea level
Air pressure
Exceptionally accurate for up to two weeks ahead.
Even forecasts Donegal accurately!
Enough said

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...
2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

This one is ok too, it gives you a decent forecast containing wind direction, temperature, surf and tides.

this gives a five day forecast , click for northern ireland, then you can get a 5 day for the likes of ballypatrick forest, londonderry etc, it gives a few options and hopefully for somewhere near where you want.

Ok,
As a bit of an amateur weather router, the best site ( and I use it 80% of the time) is:
http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/uv10_frame.htm
This site gives 10 day forecasts that are the most accurate. They have the benefit of using all meteorology data for Europe and the N Atlantic.
that's my tuppence worth
JFK
PS If you want any help deciphering any of it..just drop us a line and I'll help
