Tope Season 2010'
People: Tiernan, Ger, Joe, Jeff & sQuig
Duration: 4 Hr Session
Tide: Rising Tide
Weather: Excellent
Bait: Mackerel
Rigs: 8/0 Steel Pulley Rigs
Results: (Ger-1 Tope)(Joe-2 Tope)(Jeff-5 Tope)(sQuig-3 Tope)
Report: This session was a week ago or more and it took me awhile to upload the pics as my camera was acting up, but better late than never. Couple of us heading out to a local mark last week for a spot of tope fishing. Little did we know we would be in for a nights fishing that will be remembered for quite some time. From the first cast we had instant action, where Jeff and I had a double hook up. Which i have to say has never happened on a session for tope, as im well use to playing the waiting game, but there is a first for everything and i cant complain on the results of the night. We were treated to a spectaular aerial show by the tope as they leaped from water when hooked and i have to say, it was amazing.. The night resulted in 11 tope being caught and ranged from 18lb to 30lb. All the tope that night were all males, and no big females showed up unlike last year, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Also numerous fish were lost on the night due to the mad feeding frenzy of the tope. As soon as they leaped from the water, sometimes would turn and wrap themselves in the line and they would work their way past the shockleader and when u strike, the result is not pretty as it causes friction on the main line and will rub against the tope's tough skin and will weaken it. So i would advise double the length of shockleader when fishing for tope as it gives u extra protection of this happening. This is just my opinion, and not a must but I said i would share the info. Some of the pics are show below, had trouble getting some of the pics off my broken camera, along with Jeff having most of his catches on his own Camera, which is a shame, but how and ever.
Well i hope u enjoy the report, and i will catch up with u again soon, all the best, sQuig...........................

Re: Tope Season 2010'
What can I say except - top class fishing lads - congratulations to you all. That is awesome fishing, I am so jealous and I'm not embarrassed to admit it!
If I caught just one Tope during my whole life time I would be over the moon and you lot go and catch several, and all on the one night!!
Well done.
