In fairness ignorance would be an excuse in some cases but I was shocked to learn that a tackle shop had given bait advice and sold rigs to catch bass. I'm glad to say it is not a store that has ever been mentioned on SAI or one that I have ever been to.Tanglerat wrote:What's needed is enforcement of current laws.

Ignorance is no excuse, I reckon.
It's the same as taking a salmon, sea trout or brown trout during their closed seasons. How much sympathy would you expect from a bailiff if he caught you with a salmon on November 30th?

I was fishing last night not for bass .My son caught one bass on mac who is nine years old the bass was always going to be put back .Then some guy gave me a right ear full about the ban and he went way over the top .Now my son thinks the law are going to be on to us over this .There is a time to keep your views on this to your self .even when there is no ban i return all my bass and to take that from someone who know nothing about me was abit much

thank god the ban is nearly over and you wont have to put up with idiots like that, hope it hasnt put you or your son of,
to many people go overboard every year with this, if you catch one simple let it go,
i still fish spots were there are bass and other species and fish my usual way if i get a bass i throw it back no big deal, i never target them ever just catch them now and again, as a lot of people know i think they are over grown perch and deserve no more special treatment than any other fish

As the bass ban approaches its end the comments will change from "not allowed to fish for bass" to "i cant catch one"

Could you imagine the what it would be like if there was a close season like for salmon, how long is that for, a lot more than a month isnt it?

Could you imagine the reaction to a ban that long on bass, eg 1st of may to 1st august??

Re: The Bass Ban
As a total beginer I visited my local tackle shop here in Dungarvan and while asking for advice he explained about the ban and the reasons behind it. Yes I will fully comply with this but to be honest I am a little worried that my ignorence of methords might land me in trouble should I catch one.
Probably a very small chance but I would not hesitate a to release if this occured

Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

What time today does the ban get lifted?

A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.
