Sligo Tope and turbot sessions
Duration 4 hrs Sunday, 2 hrs Monday and 1 hr Wednesday
Tide LW on Sunday, HW Monday and Wednesday
Weather cool and breezy, sunday, dowpours Monday and calm and humid Wednesday
Bait Sandeel and freshly caught mackeral
Rigs various
Results
Tope, Turbot, flounder, sea trout
Fished a surf beach Sunday morning to stock up on some turbot. Some nice ones about the last few weeks and today was no exception, with plenty around the 28 to 35 cm mark, including a nice treble all over 30 cm. Plenty of flounder too and two sea trout - both about a 1lb. Ended up with around 40 fish in around 4 hours, most on fresh mackeral.
Had my first session of the year after tope on Monday evening, after stocking up on a few fresh mackeral I tried a new venue, knowing full well that the usual ones would be full of weed. The weather was awful with torrential rain and the weed make life very hard even with 200 gram grips and 20 lb mainline. The weed dropped off for about an hour to levels which made it just about fishable and I had two runs, both landed, fish of around 25-30 lb. A good start to the season!
Fished a better mark on Wednesday night, much smaller tides and offshore winds but it was still unfishable with weed up until 1 hr before HW. My first proper fishing cast I lost a fish, before missing another run on the next cast. 4 more casts resulted in four fish landed from 20 up to around 40 lb, the latter giving me one of the best fights ever from a tope, almost emptying a Penn 535. It was HW at that stage and the weed returned almost immediately and I had to call it a night. 6 runs and 4 fish landed in an hour, hopefully the offshore winds blow off the weed for tomorrow and the weekend and things should really take off!

Cracking fish to catch off the shore, welldone.
Don't take this the wrong way but holding a Tope by the tail can seriously damage its organs resulting in death.
Once again, great shore caught capture.

Is that a certain ex world Champion with the tope???
UP THE DEISE!!!!!!!
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.
KStaff winning matches is the new black.
