Report:Got to the beach at 6pm with Big Mick, hoping to get a fish before Fishface arrived. The way he's been fishing lately we needed a headstart

.First casts produced small smoothies fore us both, target species landed ,,,,,,,,happy days

.Neil hooked into a big smoothie when he arrived, but lost it in the surf

,well thats what he told us,i had my doubts and he later admitted that it was just a doggie

,sad or what

. As usual at this mark I had brought my salt bass 11'6'' instead of my salt 14'6'',thats because the rodbags are similar and i'm a dopey so and so

.I also forgot my seat in my hurry to get out and if you think Big Mick had any respect for age and dodgy knees, think again

.He sat in his armchair for most of the night casting and indeed also retrieving from his cockpit. It must have been a nuisance for him to get up to go to the toilet but when nature eventuaslly called I was in that seat like a flash, albeit for only a short time. Back to the fishing,,rag was the king here and we all caught the targeted smoothies, though they werent monsters, but i'm easily pleased. I ended up with 17 fish, 5 x smoothies ,starry and common,6 x doggies, 4 x dabs, 1 x flounder and a tub gurnard, 3 new species for the year. Mick had 8 fish, 6 x doggies and 2 x dabs. NEIL HAD 3 FISH, 2 SMALL SMOOTHOUNDS AND A CODLING.He blamed this on the Verukas on his feet which he said were interfering with his casting style,,,,,,,,,sad or what

.He limped off lamely, as you would, but not before revealing to us that he had been a boy soprano in his younger days and treating myself and Big Mick to his rendition of Panis Anjelicus

.Big Mick ,not being used to such culture, just looked on in amazement ,and when Neil left I had to agree with Mick that he was ,as Ronnie Drew used say "A Quare Hawk!!"
