North Connemara 01-june-2010

#1 Post by gfkelly1969 »

People:myself

Duration:18:30 to 23:00

Tide:high 20:54 4.4m

Weather:lovely

Bait:mackerel,lug,sandeel

Rigs:feathers,2 hook flapper,3 hook flapper,conger trace

Results:1 flounder,1 dog,1 conger 7lbs

Report:headed for a different beach from to the one i tried the last few sessions, had only one bite while there, met a nice family from tipp who were on holidays and were fishing, they came over to see what kind of fishing i was doing,i showed them how to bottom fish and gave them some bait for tomorrow also met a local fisher man who gave me a lot of information i didnt feel the time going so decided to hit the pier again to save the blank

set up at the pier and cast out a 2 hook flapper with lug and when i was looking for the feathers in the box i spotted the conger trace and decided to give it a go

so on with the trace and half a mackerel and dropped it over the side, after 10 mins started to get a knock on the rod i reel in and a doggie was landed
dogfish.JPG
I dropped the bait over the side again and then checked the second rod and reeled in a flounder
flounder.JPG
I put on the feathers and had a few casts and then spotted a knock on the other rod thought it was another doggie but then saw a slow pull down so grabbed the rod and struck, conger on :D had a good fight from it before I landed it, 7lbs weight and pb for me
conger.JPG
got to try my diy fish disgorger on the conger and it worked fine,I was glad to have it with me

i see what you are talking about,it looks massive in the photo,i think its the flash from the camera on the nylon coating that makes it look so big,the wire is about the same as the earth wire in a 2.5 twin and earth

you wont burst my bubble as everyone on the site knows I only use balloons,I am not getting involved in a school yard argument about whose conger is bigger

believe it or not we lads in the west have gotten very modern we even got the electricity and certified scales down here now as well

my scale showed 7lbs and I am happy with that, and even if it was out by a few lbs who cares,I certainly don't, I am just happy to have landed it after a great fight

thanks dave,I have been trying for awhile to land a good size conger and when I had him up on the the pier I was scratching my head thinking why the hell did I try to catch one and what the hell am I going to do now  :? ,how do I hold him and unhook him  :? i am sure i will still go after them again the next time i am out
