pollock,dogs and flounder,25th,29th,31st may

#1 Post by doggie3131 »

three reports in one here lads and ladies,

25th myself and james and john hit a rockmark in the achill area with our light spinning rods to try for a few pollock and anything else that fancied getting caught, arrived to find the whole coastline covered in nets :( :( we spent a few hours spinning with only me getting a small pollock.this used to be a great spot, not anymore :( nothing could get thru all the nets! :x :x

29th after john checked the iso map, we were off to a new mark, got there and it looked sweet,we set up two rods each, one out in search of ray and one in close for the flatties, there was a lot of weed in the tide line so we gave up on the flatties and concentrated on the ray,no luck altho we did get loads of doggies, final count,me 9 dogs, john 7 dogs,...oh and a visit from the local guards!

31st myself and jason decided on a turbot hunt, but our local hotspot was out, with very high spring tides, this is not a mark to fish with high spring tides,so an alternaite venue in connamara was picked, jason had not fished here before and i was confident we would get fish!two rods each out for flounder and turbot, the flounder obliged, the turbot did not!never saw surf as good on this beach, and there were fish out in the surf, but nothing but flounder were caught, the biggest 28cm the smallest 13cm! i finished with seven, jason fished with five, grand to get fish but it was a lousy night weather wise!

Great results Noel, well done mate :D
The whole issue with the nets has depressed me though, this seems to be an ever growing problem all around our coast and I for one am sick of it! Sorry, rant over. The good old reliable iso maps sorted you's out with a new mark and there you's caught fish which is great, well done on the doggies and flounders. Great report as always 8)
Love the new avatar by the way

Well done guys 8) at least you got out fishing and caught a few to account for, more that can be said from myself  only had a few trips out to the lake for trout with rather depressing results and was hitting the local with a chap for a couple of jars to chillout :D :D :D - only to discover an unmarked loakeboat, moored right there in the marina just a few yards away from the pub and it was seriously tilted over. On closer inspection we found four keepnets    filled up to the brim with all types of course fish, needless to say the auld knife came out and we released all the prisoners    Have to say there were quite a few people around but no one bothered us. This poaching and netting is going on here now since a couple of years and none of the bodies concerned seems to care. The mind boggles, to say the least. I have developed a serious allergy to nets in the meanwhile, hope this is a recognized illness, in case someone wearing a white wig wants to know   :P

cheers folks, the nets are everywhere at the moment! chippers must be doing a roaring business! i can see bryella getting launched with knifes onboard instead of rods! and a few nets would be shredded! still that new mark looks sweet!it will throw up a few surprises i hope!!
