Wicklow beach, 30-05-10

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me, fishface, Conor

Duration:7-11pm

Tide:rising

Weather:fine,mild, dry

Bait:rag ,mack, squid, crab

Rigs:1+2 hook clipped down, flappers

Results:dabs ,whiting, doggies, starrry smoothound

Report:Another painful beating for me by Fishface, what can I say  ,i tried everything but he caught not one, but 2 starry smoothounds. Not that they gave him much of a scrap, his arms werent exactly aching afterwards,,,but they were smoothies, which we were targeting :x . I'm only saying this in jest of course,it was a pleasure really,a beautiful evening with dozens of fish caught, what more could one ask for(a smoothie for me maybe>,even a tiddler like Fishface caught, not that i'm jealous or anything ,life is so unfair sometimes  ).He brought along a workmate, young Conor, who caught a half dozen doggies with his telescopic rod, well done. His next lesson will be him getting to grips with the said doggies himself. We were catching from the off, Neil getting Dabs by the dozen ,myself getting mostly dogs, with small dabs and whiting in close on the small rod. Rag on its own outfished all other baits.I would have loved to add a smoothie to the list, but i'll have to wait til next time. We finished up at 11pm, nice night . I've taken the decision reluctantly to crop Fishfaces smoothie pic as I dont want to give away the location of a mark thats throwing up such fine smoothies   . I've had over 20 fish each session here the last few times and its a far cry from my last few trips to Bray Harbour,,,,, the last few sessions i've had there were really hard work,,,,2 sessions,4 hours each ,with 2 fish each time,,,,,,,,,,,met Paddy from the site whos from Wexford on Thursday who kindly gave me some peelers, thanks Paddy. Worth mentioning that when he reeled in his final cast he asked me to hold the rod as there was weed caught in the top eye and he wanted to hand line the fish up. We looked down into the water, and in the light of his headlamp we could see 2 doggies swimming around the base of the pier side by side,,,,only one was hooked, the other had followed him in,lovely seeing the two of them swimming around in circles under us   .The hooked one was quickly released to rejoin his mate. I caught my 2 flounder there on the peeler on Sat night, thanks again Paddy

Well done Dave, Neil and Conor.
I love the first picture. I've been there before, must try and get a race down in the summer and meet up with you's for a session. I'll PM you closer to the time and see if you's are free. Sooner rather than later if Neil's monster smoothie is anything to go by   I bet he had some fight to get that brut in! 8) Not to worry, size isn't everything
Your report was brilliant to read as always Dave, nice one mate.
