All this mess around peeler crabs is simply ridiculous ... 1.50 EUR for a crab is also ridiculous  .
And like everytime for a couple of irresponsible (not for trapping crabs but for the hazard caused by their traps and the size of them), everybody is going to pay ... One day we are going to banned from some place, and other councils and towns will follow ... Bait collecting restrictions, no angling zone ...

this is playing in to the greens hands only last year wasent one of there councillers looking to introduce permits to dig for rag at clontarf? the set up in sutton is a comercial venture on public property and should be stopped its taken crabs at a huge scale and leaving none for the average joe that goes there to dig for himself and pick up a few peelers the man in howth said they got aggressive when anyone went near their tyres it now stops any tyres been placed on the sand which messes it up for everyone

I agree with you, sea shore is for everybody ... Imagine if tomorrow everybody was claiming a part of an estuary or beach and claim it as his personal peeler ground starting setting up hazardous strucure ... We could call it "peeler war" ...
Is there any kind of license for professional bait collector?

maybe the council should tell them to remove the tyres or face a fine...

im going to take a drive out there and see for my self the extent of the operation.

suggest we all go out at low water and help ourselfs to the crabs!! ha ..if enough people take action they will get the message and move on.

ps- i dont blame the lads as they are just jumping on the back of silly prices being paid for feckin crabs. anyone know who is behind the operation?

ive seen this coming for a couple of years now.the removal of all tyres, cavity blocks etc would be great but when the commercial bait collectors object it may and probably will lead to a total ban on bait collecting in these areas

this typical dublin crap talk there is tyres in every esturiay in the country.there plenty of members on this site that have there own traps but keeping quiet.any of ye dublin anglers see the esturiiays in cork my god the dublin papers say theres 450 tyres in dublin bay if so there must be 8,ooo in cork yes thousened not hundred not to mention wexford were there is loads then kerry even more yet nothing said.but 450 tyres in dublin gets a page in the paper cope on.if some guy didnt smash all the cavaties in redrock mayb there would be less tyres in dublin bay but dont think cork kerry or wexford would get a mention.so feck this fine gael fella looking for some extra votes the guy hasnt a clue nor have the locals in this area cause they is tyres there 15 years and now it gets a mention they must have lost there dog and went out far to find him and found the traps.it also states that there is swimmers in this area iv been craping here 20 odd year and iv never seen a swimmer here or a boat its all redtape bull.they can move the tyres but i can tell you this and now il put more out im not paying 1.50 for a peeler.

jimmy i agree with some of your rant. but the 400 tyres there talking about were put there recently by 4 polish lads. they brought them out and made a bank of them just for themselves.to supply shops with crabs. its a comercial venture in a public domain. what this does is highlight the money that can and is been made doing this. when the powers that be see this as lost revenue. it will then be have you got a permit? for digging bait its going to happen

Crab Traps

#18 Post by Bolger »

I am currently working in the howth / sutton area and several months back it was brought to my attention that there was a large number of crab traps after being placed in the red rock area of sutton.
The local community are not one bit please with this development, there was over 450 tyres and a large number of car doors/ blocks / and other items placed on the beach.
There are several questions i would ask in relation to this matter; who placeed them there, have they got insurance cover for this operation also can the crab in this area sustain this pressure?
The final point is, what has happened in sutton has got anglers a bad and could result in a ban on all bait collection in this area.
PS; This matter has being reported in the press already.

When can we meet up to do this.Id be ready today if anybody else is up to it..Just on the subject of commercial collections.I was out on a walk only yesterday around the clontarf area where i seen 13 forign nationals (polish and Lithuanian i have been told) collecting cockels and what seemed like winkels on a mass scale. Some poor guy went out to ask what they were doing only to be met by a wall af warnings and foul language from a number of them.I was close enough to hear exactly what was said and the man was simply curious and they were simply discusting in the way they reacted. We need to address this and similar issues beginning to happen NOW. We can all talk and send e-mails so lets get togther and stop this nonsense in a peacful manner before we all get a bad name.WE SHOULD ACT BEFORE WE ARE ACTED ON.
