Just one tip with the camera, if you get it wet DON'T turn it on as this is what wrecks it. Take it home and dry it out for a few days before turning it on and it should be fine.

Re: Species caught from around the Co.Kerry Coast - May 2010.
Nice fishing, shame about the camera. I had a disaster last summer with my mobile getting soaked. It was in my trouser pocket inside my waders and we were wading too deep and when crossing a channel to get back I shipped alot of water. Result was a destroyed phone.
Pretty serious stuff if you think about it. When would you like your phone to be working? Answer - just when you are facing drowning! Or just when your phone stops working because its drowned. Not clever at all !
Solution was found at a website: www.over-board.co.uk
They have a range of completely waterproof cases for mobiles and cameras (I'm not connected with the company, just that I really rate their phone cases). I've been using the mobile case when wading and when its raining and it is very good, as you can use the phone when still in the case and hear OK, and you can see through the case, and you know it will be there and working should you need it in an emergency

Thanks carpets. Your right, there's no shortage of fish but it can be hard to find them sometimes! We've sussed the place out quite well but it's such a vast area you'd need to live down there for years to get to know everywhere. We are looking forward to the coming weeks to go and do a spot of mullet fishing.carpets wrote:Great trip lads no shortage of fish down that end of the country, you seem to have it well sussed in Kerry.. enjoy the coming weeks
K2 caught a nice mullet today - that's us started up here now after hitting them in Kerry - happy days!
Thanks Donfishermannum1 wrote:cracker of a report paula and some nice pic'swas a very good read, but did giggle a bit when you said about the camera, bet you wont make that mistake again
Thanks Alan. K2's head is recovering well, I didn't do him much damage. That'll teach him for asking me to help him dig worms when he knows I hate it!lucky wrote:nice one paula.. sounds like ye had a ball and some good fishing too.....pitty you where so hard on the fork,, how is k2 head. did it hurt ....only joken...![]()

Well done on your first mullet.
Sounds like a great holiday apart from the wet camera - one of the hazards of fishing, I have got through about 4 cameras over the last two years.
I am off on a bit of a fishing holiday myself - but abroad, Croatia. The first week just travelling around, then the second week will be purely fishing off one of the islands with a local guy and his boat.
Good luck in Croatia, that'll make a nice change from fishing the beaches at home, hope you catch loads of fish. Have a safe journey

Thanks marshpike. I agree with you. Fishing for mullet in estuaries is a real challenge but it’s one that both of us enjoy. The mullet are so clever and so when you outwit them it’s brilliant!marshpike wrote:Just one tip with the camera, if you get it wet DON'T turn it on as this is what wrecks it. Thanks for the advice about the camera, I wish I had’ve knew not to turn it on when it’s wet. It might have saved me alot of heartache and money buying another one. Aww well, it’s a good lesson learned. One I won’t forget in a hurry!

Thanks spinner. That information you provided me above is very useful, I appreciate it. I think I need to invest in one of those waterproof cases just to be on the safe side. If not, I know the liffey is full of mullet, you could give them a go there in the summer. I'm thinking off trying for them myself there sometime this year.
