Wicklow Harbour, 25-5-10

#1 Post by Cormdogg »

Me and 3 buds

7pm-12

Mack, lug, rag

Mostly 2 hook flappers, feathers, pulleys, conger rigs, floats

HT @ 9PM

Lovely evening, bit of a funky smell on the air though ;)

Results: A serious mix bag of fish, Launce and small Pollock on feathers, undersize whiting, pollock, codling, 3 Dab, about 18 dogs, a butter fish, no conger :(

Didn't get the species we came for but we were almost getting a fish a cast (when we weren't tangling up with each other)

Good crowd of people there when we arrived, but plenty of rooms for everyone, didn't see anyone land a mack, mostly small pollock and doggies same as us.
Had a go on the feathers, got a few pollock and launce, we all had rods out at a distance, started getting dogs, dabs and codling while it was still bright, had floats at our feet hoping for wrasse but kept getting small pollock. Went to the inside of the harbour as it got dark. Were getting doggies every cast almost, one even went for a whole mack fillet right down the wall. Lots of small whiting in the Harbour too, are this a year round species now?

Lovely night, lots of fish, had a break and had some curry chips and battered sausages, lots of young lads out fishing, which is good to sea, the harbour is looking particularly clean which is good to see, that ever present aroma is still there! And thanks to some chap who gave us his left over lug and rag, we had only mack due to some general debate as to what time Mikes Bikes in Dun Laoire is open untill! Anyone know? What time is the shop in Wickla open untill generally?
2010 - Whiting, Dogfish, 3 bearded Rockling, Shore Rockling, Pollock, Dab, Plaice, Launce, Sea Scorpion, Goby, Gunnel, Codling, Red Cod, Smooth Hound, Ballan Wrasse, Corkwing Wrasse

Frankies sports in the town opens til 6 of an evening and she usually has great fresh rag in summer.
I find the stuff in the other shop can be a bit hit and miss and expensive....€7.50 for 20 rag......

Hey Rog,
Well it does, Frankies sports is a general sports store. She carries bits of everything but only a little fishing tackle, some line, swivels and a few leads etc.
She has frozen mackerel and sandeeel, squid and sometimes crab.
The shop is based at the top of the town, just beside Mizzoni pizza place and the post office.
