Gunwell and Zeke's last Irish session

#1 Post by yorkshire man »

People:Zeke Shane R and I

Duration:4pm-11ishpm

Tide:last hour of the drop and then up

Weather: lovely

Bait: lug eel mac Hard backs feathers and lu

Results: Zeke Ballan ,corkwing Wrasse and pollock Shane Ballan, corkwing Wrasse Dab and Pollock Me Thornback pouting Ballan and corkwing Wrasse.

Report:

As Zeke is flying home on the 25th this was going to be his last Irish session The poor man is now going to have to console himself with catching Tuna sailfish marlin and other tropical species.
We headed to gumwell as the tides weren't great but we could at least fish deep water.
Arrived to bright sunshine roasting temperatures and a slight breeze got set up and started to fish out in the channel not much happening at first shane fished a rod close in with crab for wrasse and soon connected with a few nice ones.
Zeke was next fishing in close catching wrasse and Pollock on lug then shane got a dab on ell in the channel i persevered fishing out in the channel with a 3 hook flapper with lug and a sand ell on a pulley.
As the other two continued to catch i got that sinking feeling that this was going to turn into another blank for me i was knelt down baiting up my flapper the ratchet went on my other rod and it flicked up and nocked me in the head "happy days " waited a few second and tightened in to a fish In the depth of water any fish feels large so lovely thornie about 4 pounds.
the guy were well in to the wrasse and pollock in close using lug i thought i should give it a go just to get the species count up got one outing on lug out the the channel the we all realised we didn't have a light between us packe up by the light of our phone and left.

Would like to say goodbye to Zeke its been a pleasure fishing with him and reading his posts and i wish him all the best
Ps he's promised not to post anything on the site he catches over 100lb when he fishes back home.

Glad the last session produced a few fish worth having. Zeke: I never met you but I always enjoyed your contributions if, as a (relative!) newcomer to the site you'll allow me to say so. Also, your motto on your posts has increased my familiarity with the Bible by at least 10 syllables :D

It was a nice little session to give Zeke a send off, it was only a pity more thornies didn't turn up. Mike you forgot the little rockling I pulled out at the end. He took a double sandeel on a 3/0 pennell, I think he had big ideas about himself. The sandeel were nearly longer than him.
Zeke it's been great fishing with ya mate, i hope the journey home goes well and that the fishing is good when ya get there!
I'll keep trying for that tope and I'll let ya know how it goes.

Cheers
Shane
