Bellavista Hotel Warrior's, Specimen Pollock 15/05

#1 Post by MikeQ »

Got this fish while fishing with guests from Bellavista hotel as a guide on Kevin's Warriors. We fished a few of the peaks out at the Ling Rocks and got quite a few Pollock up to about 6 or 7 pounds but then I hooked something quality. I dropped, had a take on the way up and struck into this fish. I wasnt quite sure what it was at first, it didnt go diving for the bottow straight away, it swam up with me a little but all of a sudden it doubled my ugly stik and I realised id hooked something decent. Got him up and took a few quick pics and then tried to release him but he wouldnt go back down. I weighed him on a scales on the boat and he weighed 14lbs, I met Jim Clohessy a few hours later at his house and we weighed him again, this time he weighed 12.5 lbs. He measured 85cm from nose to tail. Absolutely cracking fish and a new personal best for me :D

Terrific fish Mike well done. Specimen pollack are few and far between. I've been trying for most of my fishing career without luck. Most certainly a fish of a lifetime.

Savage scrap altogether once he got going, he made a few very powerful lunges. Its kinda hard to describe the angle my rod made lolol, it wasnt a parabolic curve, it just bent straight from the grip down lolol it was like looking at a wonky rod :)

Thanks man, water temps are on the rise. Water clarity is also pretty good. The same day we had 4 Whales off our bow at one point and about a half hour later we had a basking shark!!!

Wow, that's a cracker Mike! Congratulations & a very big well done to you.
I''d say there's a few people who'll want to go out on the boat with you whenever they see that, prepare to be busy over the summer with bookings 8)
