waterfoot peir and beach mon 17 may

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me and dan belfast

Duration: 11am to 10pm

Tide: HW 15.06

Weather: 5mph sw dry and sunny

Bait: rag, mack, squid sand eel and launce

Rigs: flappers and pulleys

Results: DAN 7 flounder and 3 plaice ME 6 flounder

Report: with jordan dropped off at school i shot over and lifted dan for a trip up the coast. i had a days rock fishing in mind, but we arrived at the mark to see a few other anglers had already beat us to it :( :( . i don't appreciate it when people fish over the top of me so i was'nt about to do the same to these lads. and to add insult to injury as we were heading back to the car one of the lads landed a wee ballan wrasse  . so we decided to just head on up the coast and see what marks were left with a bit of space to fish from. our intended stop off was gonna be the slip at dalradia but as we passed waterfoot peir there was'nt a single angler on it and we decided to give it a go as theres always something to be caught from there. the day passed on and fish were scarce to say the least and 6 hours later all i had to show was a single flounder and dan had 3 wee plaice. we decided to pack up and head for the beach as it's never let us down in the past. so within 10 mins we were set up and fishing away with all the rod tips nodding away  i had 5 flounder and dan had 7 before we called it a day and hit the road for home. there is a distinct lack of pics for this report as most of what was caught was in the tea bag or postage stamp catagory    . but they were still fish that had gills so the day was'nt a total disaster :P

ezcellent wee spot when it fishing well, but you'll have to have your wits about you if there is any kind of a swell running man :o . you can bottom fish simple 1 hook rigs with rotten bottoms over the rough stuff (which there is plenty of). or spinning with lures over high water will get you some decent pollack and coalies and float fishing with rag will get you decent wrasse man. hope this helps :P

tell me about it brian,,, sure we could hardly find a fish during feburary and march this year, so i suppose i should'nt be complaining, but all our galway, sligo and donegal trips have spoilt us lately
