conamara 19/5/10
People:mself and yanto
Duration:5.5 hours
Tide:dropping and rising
Weather:winds kept changing..dry
Bait:mack,squid,sandeel, lug
Rigs:everything
Results:doggies,huss,ray,whiting,pouting
Report:Got a call from yanto(husshunter) and we decided to try a particular mark in conamara. On arrival there were 4 lads already fishing and they were getting a few dogs and whiting.
First casts went out and within minutes we both had whiting and doggies. The session took offf from here. Yanto pulled in a nice ray of about 4 lbs. The dogs were coming in thick and fast getting doubles within minutes of casting out. Then it was my turn to get a ray. Got the typical ray bite then i struck. Rod tip dipped then felt the fish nodding so i knew it was a ray.
Yanto then pulled in another ray and dog double then i got a triple shot of 2 dogs and a ray. The ray was small but had beautiful markings. Fish were continiously coming in thick and fast with plenty of ray for both of us. Then i got a very good bite which made the ratched go so i struck into it and instantly felt the fish nodding and diving. Started to take line of my reel too..brilliant fight. Turned out to be a ray of 7lbs, with a wingspan well over the size of my match measure. It was then gantos turn. He got a bite which looked like a doggie. He struck and reeled in as normal saying o ya, just a dog. Then hell broke loose, he then said ooooo no this is not a dog, the fish turned and started to nod and dive giving a great fight. As i went to give him a hand with it i said no its a dog, then o wait no a nice huss of about 6lbs then o christ thats a big one, turned out to be a massive huss into the double figures! After a few photos it was released. Then i got a tiny huss on my flapper, and i pulled out a few more ray. Then it was my turn with a proper huss, after a good scrap i landed a double of a plump doggie and a 6lbs huss. We picked off a few more fish each and then ran out of bait. Got a lot of my fish on a size 4 match rig to really have to take care when bringing the fish in. Got a few pictures and then my useless phone broke and missed pictures of my huss and a few ray..pity but what a session, one of the best iv ever had and one that will stick in my memory for a long time!
Finished up with 18 doggies,6 ray, 2 huss, 3 whiting and a pouting
Yanto had :17 doggies, 4 ray, 1 huss, 1 whiting
il post pictures later
