Here's a fine specimen Bass of 14lbs caught by John Hamer on the float in Cork Harbour in 2009 although it was caught from the boat it wouldn't be impossible to fish the same mark from the shore

I actually caught a bass from the shore very near where that photo was taken on a float , bait used was king rag , it wasn't a big fish but it was on a very light trout rod which really increased the enjoyment .

Float fishing for bass can be very effective ... My favorite is at night with a live shrimp ...
2010: starry smoothound, common smoothound, bass, flounder, dogfish, scorpion fish, tub gunard, tope, thornback ray, bull huss, coalfish, pollack, mackerel, turbot, whiting...

2011: flounder, dab, 5 bearded rockling, whiting, dogfish, codling, starry smoothound, common smoothound, bass, bull huss ...

2012: dogfish, codling, starry smoothound (PB), bass, common smoothound (PB)...
