People:me and another sean then me tonight

Duration:12 till 7

Tide:rising

Weather:fine

Bait: xlayers, feathers, lug and mackeral

Rigs:mixed

Results:16th other sean 2 pollack, 1 wrasse, 1 dab,2 mackeral, 1 thornback ray.......me 1 launce

tonight me 1 flounder/ 6 codling

Report:got the chance to go out into dungarvan bay for a bit of boat fishing jumped at the chance, first mark was for pollack over the kelp beds sean hit 2 fine pollack about 5 lb each and lost 2 while i managed to lose rig after rig ,sean then got a nice ballan wrasse all on jellies, moved off then to get a few macks on feathers for a bit of ray fishing sean got 2 within minutes then off to the ray mark about 5 minutes later sean pulled up a nice thornie about 5lb quickly followed by a dab. even the mackeral avoided me on the feathers but i did hit a fairly lively launce which went back out with 4/0 in his lip. great day to be out on the water but theres definatly alot more to boat fishing then i thought  , back on land tonight decided to head out to helvick for a bit of pier fishing i wiped the dust off a pack of 1/0s and sent out a few of the smallest baits ive ever sent out first cast codling/flounder double great struggle on the lite gear followed by 5 more codling all uniform in size about a 1lb each. as i was leaving at dusk there was a few mackeral hitting the spratts

Amazing that the codling are still around.
Last week in an attempt to get a bass before the ban I fished a few different marks but all I could catch were codling and dogfish. The water still felt very chilled so not surprising the bass have been so scarce so far this year.

"the smallest baits you have ever sent out" - so more like a normal size bait for the rest of us then.
Cod season Winter 2013/14: 117 cod (best fish: 6.5 lbs)
Cod season Winter 2014/15: 193 cod (best fish: 4.25 lbs)

  might even attempt a 3 hook flapper soon. surely the hoards of cod are munching up what the bass should be eating....down with cod  , talk of 20 degrees on thursday so water temps should start to rise steadily
