Re: Another Tradgedy on the Clare Coast
two in one week! most lads have this macho thing about wearing a lifejacket!id rather be alive and wearing one, than dead! and you can buy one of the automatic ones that are very discrete and you would barely see it.there about 75 euros.well worth the money.

Re: Another Tradgedy on the Clare Coast
I heard that on the radio yesterday and was hoping that he might have been found at this stage, I can't believe that there have been awful tragedies like this in the space of a week. Lads you are absolutely right about the lifejackets and I must admit that its something I can be a bit lazy about myself when fishing off rocks but it'll be coming with me from now on.

Re: Another Tradgedy on the Clare Coast
that's incredible value, fair play
just ordered 3 to replace the slightly worn ones for the kids, great to have them in spare too for the occasional friend dropping in 'by accident'

Re: Another Tradgedy on the Clare Coast
Lads
Have to agree with all of the comments so far, we are all lapse at times in relation to our own safety. We belt up when in the car so why not jacket up when fishing on Rocks or out for a boat session. Had a similiar conversation with a mate while fishing of a rock mark in Cliften earlier in the year and we both agreed jackets from now on, similiar to the ones mentioned earlier in this topic. You dont even know you have them on......
As Shore and Boat Anglers we also have the option of floatation suits that are just like a normal bib & Brace / jacket these days for not a huge amount of money.
Very sad and best wishes to their family's.

Re: Another Tradgedy on the Clare Coast
A further word of caution: lifejackets are a must on boat and rocks, but remember - they only keep you afloat and will not stop the waves from pounding you against the rocks you just fell off. Nor will they cushion a fall from a height. If the spot looks any way dodgy, just dont go there, lifejacket or not.

Words of great wisdom, I couldn't agree more. No fish is worth any life!

Well said. Lifejacket is important but doesn't make completely protect you. The guy shouldn't have been fishing those rocks over the weekend fullstop. If you see a swell like that go home lifejacket or no lifejacket.
