Rocky shore & sandy beach, Wexford, 14th May 2010

#1 Post by John D »

People:Me, Daithi and Phil

Duration:07:30 until 23:57

Tide:High tides approximately 08:00 and 20:15

Weather:Light to Moderate N/NE winds, very occassional weak shower, sunny spells, fair to poor water clarity

Bait:Fresh ragworm, fresh lugworm, fresh peeler crab, frozen razorfish and various lures

Rigs:Wishbone with size 1/0 hooks, two and three hook flappers with size 2/0 and size 3/0 hooks AND clipped down pennell with size 2/0 and size 3/0 hooks

Results:Me: 1 bass and 1 dab. Daithi: 2 bass, 1 smooth-hound, 1 codling, 1 whiting, 1 dab and 1 flounder. Phil: 3 bass, 1 smooth-hound and 4 flounder.

**All fish except for 1 medium sized bass were returned safely and unharmed to the water**

Report:We started off early in the morning on the day before it all ends for 1 month. We began lure fishing from a rocky and fairly deep water mark which only resulted in 1 fish. This was a Personal Best bass for me and finally a bass that was bigger than 3 1/2lb. I could have died and gone to heaven on the spot!! In a rush to return the fish as quickly as possible and with as little damage as possible, I didn't manage to weigh it. Estimations range from 7 to 8 pounds. We took a good break back in the house and set off for our next mark which was a long sandy beach that we bait fished. This is where another Personal Best fish was achieved, a bass of 9lbs!! I had a really poor time on this beach, if it wasn't for my morning result I would have been really dissappointed! All in all it must be said that although I only caught 2 fish - it has to be my best session ever :D

Well done lads, looks like you had some session there alright with some some absolutely super bass. :D

Btw John was it yourself that I was chatting to out in Greystones a few weeks back, doing a bit of lure fishing? Did you have any luck on the lures since?

Thanks lads. Persistance is not the word - I'm waiting years for that fish! I'm not sure Dave, were you with your partner walking a dog?

Nah lure fishing down by the stream I think but I could easily be getting mixed up.

Ok. Well anyway, the last time I lure fished Greystones was about 2 or 3 weeks ago and I caught a couple of small coalfish, 1 pollock and 1 launce.
