The photo attached shows a simple bait needle. The same type that i use. Some people use them for threading worms onto hooks, some use them for making coctail baits. There are a fair few uses but the only thing i use them for is razor fish or mussel. They're handy for any very soft bait. Just pass the needle through the bait, wrap it well with elastic, place the point of the hook into the opening at the bottom of the needle and slide the wrapped bait down the needle and onto the hook.

These are the ones i use, so simple and extreamly quick for baitin up with worm or shelfish baits.
No need for elastic with the worms just slide the worm on the neeedle, put the hook in the hollow end and slide the worm on the hook

To make them more visible and prevent you impaling yourself when rooting around the tacklebox in the dark, I stick half a wine cork on the tip.

A great time-saver when baiting up sandeels right enough.

I picked up 2 today from Henrys Fishing SHop in Ballybough, I work not far from there - will make baiting up lug and rag easier for sure !!

a good trick is to duct tape the plastic sleeve to the leg of your tripod and always put the needle back in when not using it
