Launce = Greater Sandeel. They make great bait. Loads of them round Benwee Head and in Lacken Bay in the summer when you're out in the boat, easy caught on shrimp rigs or anything small.

Use them live for bass and pollack. If you're using them dead then cut the head and tail off and bind to hook using bait elastic. Or hook through the eyes, pass the hook the whole way through the head, bring down to the middle of the fish and nick the hook through the back. Whip onto the hook and you can spin these like you would an artificial lure.
Species 2014: whiting, coalie, pouting, codling, pollack, ballan wrasse, dab, poor cod, mackerel, grey gurnard, conger, ling, cuckoo wrasse, launce, common skate, bass, scad, garfish, blue shark

Species 2015: Ballan wrasse, poor cod, pollack, ling, flounder, turbot, mackerel, whiting, lsd, dab, grey gurnard, pouting, cuckoo wrasse, cod

You could use them the same way as ordinary sandeel as detailed above, but what I usually do is cut them into 3 or 4inch chunks, split them open and put similar length of razorfish in them. Whip them up with bait elastic, into the freezer, they're a top shore bait in the autumn and winter for all sorts, especially bass. Save you gettin filthy mud-mining for worms in Killala Harbour... :D
