Certified Scales

#1 Post by Hooker »

Hi all,

I am looking for reccomendations for a resonably priced set of scales for the tackle bag? Thinking of trying to claim a few specimen fish this year as killing the fish seems to be no longer necessary.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated?

i got a berkley tec digital 35lb scales last year and no problems with them. €40 they also do a 50lb one. the guy who certified them reckoned i should have spent the extra few bob and got a salter electro samson tho as he reckoned he's had them back year after year and never seem to fail.
heres the berkley

I have the Berkley TEC 2 years now and no issues with certification. They have a lbs & kg option and the weight is visible from both sides, so the guy holding the scales and the guy on the other side can see it clearly. Once the scale has been steady for 5 seconds it will hold that weight for you and store it in memory.

Very nice scales, but only time will tell if it certifies every year. I got the 100lb version and it will weigh in 1oz steps, which is a first for a certified digital scales.

Best of luck.

Well lads should a scales not be certified when its sold to you i dont see the point of buying something thats should weigh something correctly and then send it somewhere else to make sure it dose what it is supposed to do,

it should, but still best to get it certified. if you were to catch a good fish the trophy fish lads wont entertain it unless theres a cert to go with the scales, plus if you do land a specimen the scales cant be certified after you weigh the fish.

most scales i know of will start to read wrong after a while :( thats why they need to be calibrated every year for specimen or record claims...
salter electro samson can be reset to factory condition easily so the guys up here who calibrate them reset them before they start the test.
My set of these read perect the first year but they were a bit out at the heavy end a year later.Next year the guy had found out how to reset them and the test has read perfect ever since 8)

Thanks for all the info. Will definitely look into getting one from the UK. They seem way cheaper over there.

I could calibrate it myself with certified weights as I do this as part of my job as a Pharmaceuticle scientist but don't think this is acceptable!!

Bought some line of this guy on tuesday, arrived in the post from Uk yesterday.

He had a flier in with the package, and says Electro Samson scales, all sizes, prices £47.50.

www.fishingdiscountstore.co.uk
ebay shop/username : fishing discount store / stressedoutloads.

Hope that helps
