flounder spoons ?well does anyone use them and get results? i,ve tried them but to be honest i find coloured beads and sequins better
maybe i,m not fishing it right ,just use a light lead and bring it back a few feet at a time till its at my feet, other fig is just chucked out with a palin lead and allowed to wander

Re: flounder spoons ?
ive had no sucess with shop bought ones, but i buy blades, small and medium, and add them to my own rigs, with a mixture of beads and lumi beads and they work a treat. for both flounder and turbot.

Re: flounder spoons ?
Plain rigs catch many, many more beach flatties from my experience. Naked traces save a single floatie bead on the top snood. On saying that, I have had some success using 3/4 small lumi beads at night but thats not to say they caught any more than the plain traces did. Key to catching flats is ALL about the movement. Any reasonable trace with reasonable bait will catch if you can get a bit of movement from it. If that means experimenting through a range of different sized leads, so be it. It makes a huge difference.

Re: flounder spoons ?
Roger, this is one I have always thought about. I have rigs that i tie with beads lumi beads and sequins, and on others I’ll add the blades. I catch with both, so therefore my train of thought is add the blades because they haven't done any harm to my catch rate and if they increase my chances that's great. Fished a few places with big tide rips and you can feel the blades vibrating like crazy up the braid. I suppose this has got to attract flounder

Re: flounder spoons ?
i know the little blades your talking about ,the spoon i,m talking about is about 3 inches long and normally plastic or light metal either flouro pink/yellow/ red or silver or copper and would be fished more like a spinner with a baited trace behind it with beads /1 or 2 hooks and bait, maybe its too old a method for you guys to know

Re: flounder spoons ?
Never used them myself Roger. Have found that reeling the line in a couple feet every few minutes can entice a flounder to bite. Think the spoons are used in a lot of bost fishing rigs as well.

Re: flounder spoons ?
well roger i have a home made rig a bit like that,i put a 2oz ball lead on the line up above the blade and it will roll down the beach all by itself,it works a treat,so... i guess it would work with a shop bought one,but i find those spoons are a bit to big and dont flutter as much as a medium blade.another thing we are experimenting with is a copper tube on the line above the hook, copper has a reaction with sea water creating a small elertic current, which the fish will pick up so.... we will let ye know how it works out. heres some pics

Never used them from the shore, but over the years caught a good few flats that way when drifting inshore in boats. Used various types, the Rauta spoon was a good performer, and just recently I found a similar one called a Sonar spoon - they have a slot in them thats supposed to create enticing vibrations. Still waiting to try it out, but not from the shore.....

Re: flounder spoons ?
i know fellas who use them in estuarys, through the streams at low water to good effect. also have used them on the boat , taken many species on them fished off booms/spreaders etc. including a 12lb cod a few years back

Re: flounder spoons ?
The original flounder spoons were big beasts, 2" to 3" long and were used mainly from the drifting boat. Also have been used successfully below a float.
