Headed out a tad reluctantly into a fairly blowey night, a real fresh NE wind blowing. Got to the beach and it wasn't as rough as I feared, but there was a nice surf piling in all the same. Got the bait in the water at 10:15pm and settled in for the night. Not a single bite until 11:40pm whan I got a big bang, picked the rod up and hit it the 2nd time. Tightened into him and all I could do at first was keep the tension on the line as I couldn't reel him in. After a little bit I started to retrieve and he came in OK until he got into the shallows and started to go balistic, but after a short struggle he was beached. Lovely fish, no scales with me so I don't know what weight he was but he measured 64 cm in length with a girth of 36cm. A fine plump fella. Anyone venture a guess as to weight?
Fished on for another hour but nothing else stirring, not that I minded too much
