Report:Aftre having a boat trip cancelled...again! we were itching to get out,so a thornie session was decided on,we had seen a few caught recently and decided to target them.the venue in west connamara was decided, but then i got a phone call requesting that this venue was given a rest with a compitition being fished there next weekend,so..we decided to go on a recce to see could we find a new spot out that general direction,we got out there later than expected after having to take a detour after getting distracted by the "skirt" in westport.my bad   we drove up the coast, stopping here and there to have a look, and finally we saw a spot that had fairly deep water out over sand.rods were set up and the waiting game began, the beach buddy was set up,and the coffee brewed, and as soon as i got my coffee one of my rods had a slack liner.coffee as bait works a treat! :D :D lifted into a decent bit of weight and knew i had a thornie on,the heart started doing the tango as i got the fish close to the shore, as i could see it in the deep water which was crystal clear, and it was a decent fish, finally i got it on dry land! :D result!! :D first one of the year! a fish "guesstimated" at about 5-6lb things went quiet for a while then i got a strong knock and another thornie was landed soon after, around the same weight. :D john was getting worried,i know that cause when hes worried he eats!out came his saucepan and a can of SOUP! MRS BAXTERS FINEST!well as soon as he was tucking into a pot of soup and wedges of bread, guess what.....his rod gives a good strong knock and his first thornie of the year was on! :D well, 8) after much heart thumping moments he finally landed his fish! :D nice dark fish around the 5lb mark! 8) celebrations all round then, and as we brought the fish to the buddy to be photographed we discovered that "frostie", johns dog, had enjoyed the soup and wedges!not a drop left!  we packed up soon after, just a quick ps to the lads fishing the comp next weekend, the spider crabs are in, and in force, we both had hooks cut off, the same had happened last week, and a local was telling us that they were being landed in numbers in the pots.

Well done Lads
I knew with the boat trip cancelled that you would just swap the rods and head out anyway.
