After reading the article in this month's Sea Angler mag and looking at it forlornly from Lettergesh for the last 3 years , the spell of good weather galvanized myself and Doug into action . The usual Tuesday lunchtime discussion with the usual hummin and hawin about where we would spend our usual Wednesday session was cut short " Inishturk " says Doug " Aye" says me , a quick phone call to confirm ferry times and we were sorted .
We met up at Roonagh pier to catch the 9:30 ferry to 'Turk like to excited schoolboys , once we hopped on I spent the next 40 minutes wrecking Doug's head, " are we there yet ? are we there yet? "
Long story short folks , we fished rock marks , a beach mark , in close , at distance , various rigs various baits . End result ? Blankety Blank.
However we left the island not down hearted but determined to come back coz this is on place that has more to offer , and I'm told of monster conger from the short , crowded pier.

fair play to ye lads - thats the way to do it!!!

pity ye got nothing on the line - but im sure your appetite is ready to go back there in the summer months and youve spots picked out to hit next time

fished clare island last summer and those island seem to hold any amount of possibilities for fishing in peace and quiet at the height of the summer in a stunning location

Surely this is what sea angling is all about, pioneering unfished coastline.

Too bad, you had to try and at least you got to go and see for yourself what it was like. It looks like a great place in the photo's.
Those rocks certainly look like to me that there would be some good wrasse lurking about and perhaps some pollock too. Maybe later on in the year, during the summer it would pick up abit.

I've heard that Inish Turk is apparently surrounded by Gill Nets.

ya i read that there peter in sea angler.they got nice fishing alright but no massive monsters either.i taught it was funny they way ur man telling the anglers he was bringing them to a place never fished before.surely that aint true.any way hard luk on blank better look next time

hard luck with the blank but its always great to try out new ground and different spots,i bet if you arrange a trip again and post it up you will have a great gang going out with you

hard luck on the blank, there is excellent wrasse and conger fishing to be had there. Used to go there in summer time on my grandads boat ( he native of turk) , myself and my cousin were fishing there off da pier while the boat was moared, with a mackeral flapper i managed to land a conger that was in 20- 30lb bracket, but manage to cut the wire by going mad on the pier while i was sending my cousin to the boat to get help as we were only 13 at the time.

I was devastated when i got no picture and definate wait for the fis as i was sure id have the winner of the shore ''young rods'' in the next months issue of sea angler. It was also my first fish from the shore

lol. Now i wish i had the picture for a different reason, so i could prove alan yates and paul french wrong that they werent the first anglers to cast a line off inishturks shores

aside from the conger story, two other good marks i know of from local knowledge are purteen harbour which is out the road past da community centre. Rough ground for large ballans, pollack, cukoo wrasse, huss, conger, and other species such as cod and whiting are very possible. Tranan strand is appartently a good bet for large plaice and flounder, as is the rocks opposite the pier which give access to depth over sand have seen large ray off the boat

.., so i can only presume they can be taken from those rocks!!

god knows what else you will find, turk is abundant with species. Cant wait to get out there again... Hopefully june.
