clifden bay co galway 01/05/2010
People:myself
Duration:17.00 to 22.30
Tide:high at 19:52 4.9m
Weather:dry and sunny with a north wind
Bait:mackerel,sandeel,squid,feathers
Rigs:pulley pennel,3 hook flapper
Results:4 dogfish 1 bull huss
Report:I decided to try a mark I only tried once before because I would have the wind at my back,it was quite for about a hour then got a good bite and landed a 2.6 lbs dogfish best doggie of the day I landed 3 more dogfish in the following hour and it went quite for awhile
again I got another good bite later on and I started to reel in and felt a good fish on but then he went to ground and i could not move him,I let the line go free for 10 mins and he moved out again I then landed my first bull huss of the year,3.1 lbs weight 5 cormorants were diving near where I was fishing so I think the fishing should start picking up soon I did see one mackerel jump out of the water after one the cormorants dived

I knew if I put up a post that it wouldn't be long before some one said it was not a bull huss so I took this video as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3swTXAlxkyEeric wrote:that huss is a doggie mate

Re: clifden bay co galway 01/05/2010
I wont be following your fish identification eric as i would only be bashing every bull huss I caught over the head and sending them off thinking i had a Irish record dogfisheric wrote:what fins, the anal and second dorsal? the fish in the video is a huss, i not denying that, that fish in the photo, entitled huss is a dogfish. The Austrian wrote:look at the fins eric.eric wrote:the only thing that proves is the picture f the huss and the video are a different fish?
lads like you put people off posting shore reports,I put up the report as I know there are a lot of lads who come down to clifden after bull huss and I know they would love to hear that the huss were back in and they could plan their trip,I didn't expect to be accused of lying in my post,if I was not sure of the identification of the bull huss I would not be afraid to ask for help in the identification
your not the only one that wishes that,i will check my huss mark soon to see if any of the 9 or 10lbs huss are back in if you want to try for them I will show you the markhusshunter wrote:nice huss good to see them coming back after the winter. Its a pity some of the posters dont head off at winter and get lost trying to find their way back to this site
the next time I get a fish I will see can I get someone from the State Pathologist's Office down to identify it and get it certified for the shore report seeing that the photos and video are not good enough,a lot of people are put off putting up posts by the begrudgers its a shame because its only a handful of begrudgers that is causing problems,if I was thinking a poster had made a mistake in his post I would pm him and let him know what I thought and let him change it if he wanted then,it puts people off if a big debate starts on their reportjohnfish wrote:unreal takes a photo of the fish and a video ,no wonder the guy dont put up reports anymore, nice huss dont listen to the begrudgers, same fish in photo and vid look at the background same patch of moss everything ,wise up .
I would be just as happy if no one replied to my posts then a big debate to start in them

good to see you getting nice results again gerry. hopefully a good sign that things are on the up again
. sadly our antrim and down huss marks are still waiting to turn on
2 blanks at them in the last 2 weeks, but some wrasse and mackeral are returning, so fingers crossed
. we might have to travel up to your end of the world to have a crack at a few bigger huss. jordan's PB from the shore is 4lb, so he should beat that this year
. well done again man

Always delighted to see a post from you Gerry, even though I often don't post up a reply.
Your reports are consistent and honest and many of us on the site learn as a result, especially me, often learning about my own locality from your reports.
