North Wexford beach, 2-5-10

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me, Fishface and Eric

Duration:7-30pm-12pm approx

Tide:rising at first then falling last couple of hours

Weather:bootiful,,,,,,,,

Bait:rag,lug,mack

Rigs:flappers and pulleys

Results:bass, codling,whiting, dabs,flounder, rockling,

Report:Myself and Neil decided to try the North Wexford beaches in the hope of some nice bass .I invited Eric along and picked him up after work and after a short stop to pick up his gear we headed down the N11. We met Fishface at Jack Whites and after he got over the shock of realising he was to fish with a real angler for once he sped off into the distance to claim the hotstot at the beach  . We tried to pull a fast one by taking a shortcut but got caught behind a typical Sunday driver who was driving Miss Daisylike in his Mercedes 320  .Fishface was already there when we arrived  .We set up and within a short time (first cast  )Neil had a good knock on his rod.He was over talking to us and we knew he had a good fish on 'cos he broke into the nearest thing to a run i've seen him do since we've met   .Myself and Eric watched on as he clearly had a decent fish on. He landed a nice bass of about 4lbs,,,,,,dont know what that is in gallons, but a nice fish none the less  .As usual I pretended to be glad for him but all I could think of at that time was how early on it was, and that i'd have to listen to him bragging on about it for the rest of the night  .It wouldnt have been so bad if it was near the end  . Anyways a quick pic later the bass was delivered back to Neptune to wash the sand off him,and he swam off back to his silvery self. Then Neil discovered that his mobile phone was missing, and presumed that it had dropped into the briny as he was putting the bass back,,,we had a look around where he was set up but no joy  ,,,till I remembered that funny little run he attempted as he raced Miss Daisylike over to grab his rod. We retraced his steps as best we could with me ringing him and Eric listening and bingo ,we found it!!!

It was now time for myself and Eric to land something.Eric was next in with a really good Dab,so I was feeeling the pressure(again as usual  ).It didnt help that I was in the middle and had mistakenly brought the Shakespeare Salt bass(11'6'') instead of the Salt Long Surf(14'9''). Eric was in Match mode and was busily preparing baits in between bringing in fish 2 and 3 at a time   .Whatever he was doing it was working well and he was landing Dabs, codling, doggies, whiting, rockling all night and he finished up as the clock struck 12 with 20 fish  . I was on my 3rd decade of the rosary when I got a good take and lifted into a good bass  ,,or so I thought  ,,,,,,it turned out to be a double of doggies. I was pleased enough  ,,,till Fishface landed another bass  ,,,a schoolie.Neil and myself kept each other in sight all night and we ended up with 6 fish each,,,,,,,bass, dabs, rockling and codling for Neil and doggies, rockling, whiting and codling for me. It was Erics turn to hear all the stories tonight and he listened politely till 9-36pm precisely,,,,,,,,,,,then the Petzl Ultra was switched on ,dazzling him in the process. He now feels my pain  .We packed up at midnight, as we were almost out of bait and with a long drive home ahead of us. Nice company, nice fishing and nice weather, sure what more could you want.
