connamara 1/5/10

#1 Post by chrisfeeney30 »

People:myself, eointarmey and husshunter

Duration:about 5 hours

Tide:dropping

Weather:nw wind

Bait:mack,squid,sandeel,razor,lug

Rigs:everything

Results:husshunter-2 dabs
Eoin-1 doggie,1 dab and a whiting
Myself-3 dabs and 4 whiting.

Report:Was a nice calm evening so we decided to give a mark in connamara a go to try and get a few ray. On arrival, there was a strong wind blowing at the sea was rough enough. After a brief shower at the begining it cleared up and the wind died down. Perfect! We put various baits at various distances. Nothing happened until eoin pulled in a dab of about 20 cms. I was next on the cards pulling in a 21cm dab. Ganto wasnt far behind pulling in a dab of 22 cms shortly after mine. At this stage the crabs were getting very bad, pulling in massive edible and spider crabs most casts or they would snip the hook off before we get it in. Ganto pulled in another dab of 23cms. I got another dab soon after this time it was 24cms. Ganto then hauled in the biggest spider crab iv ever seen. Massive thing, wouldnt like to get pinched by it! Eoin then got a whiting at distance. Then i started picking off the odd whiting, nothing of any size, only about 18-19 cms. Then eoin got a solid bite, looked like a doggie bite at first then it nearly pulled the rod off the tripod! Could it be a ray we thought! Turned out to be the only doggie of the night. I later pulled out a double of dab and whiting then i got a small whiting last cast. ALL in all it was a fun evening, pity there was no ray but thats fishing! At least we were getting a few fish! Iv a few pictures to put up so il put them up tomorrow
