smooth operators wicklow 28th April

#1 Post by finding nemo »

People - Powderkeg and myself

Tide - HW 12;30ish

Time - 6pm - 1am

Bait - Rag and Crab

Rigs - 3 hook flappers

Results - 4 Smoothies, 5 Codling, 1 Dog, 1 Flounder and 2 Whiting

Have been out a fair bit recently but havnt got around to a report in awhile and tbh i wanted something to report.
The last few weeks have really picked up so here it goes.

Got down around 6pm to find a nice surf crashing onto the beach. There was a strong wind coming at us which made casting
difficult to say the least but with bass on the mind i wasnt too fussed about distance. Fishing was slow with only a whiting
in the first 3hrs and the rest of the lads on the beach had packed up so it wasnt looking great.

A friend dropped down to have a look and get back into the fishing after afew years off. He had a cast on my rod which snapped
off all the gear. I rigged up again explaining it just happens etc. followed by a snap off from myself.

As soon as darkness crept in we started getting afew codling which were nice and plump but no keepers followed by a
flounder all on rag close in. Next in was a doggie which felt great after so many smaller fish but taught we wouldnt
get anything else once they had arrived. It was a fish a cast at this stage and seen a nice pull on my rod that looked like
a dog but kept on going so taught bass maybe? I reeled in to find a smoothie pup. A new specie for me and beautiful fish.
Realising he fell to the second last piece of crab we were kicking ourselves we hadnt bought more.
Next cast got a nice pull and abit of a scrap to find a bigger smoothie landed, it fell to rag so with 10-15 left we were happy to spend another while on the beach which
at this stage had turned calm and was mild enough.
Powderkeg was feeling abit left out on the dogs and smoothies but alas he had a smoothie on his next cast. I had a niceish whiting
and powderkeg had another smoothie on the last worm in the pack.

Still no illusive bass but i cant complain with afew fish and a new specie too.

I know afew on this board are smoothhound fanatics and i can see why. these fish were only pups i can only imagine the power off a grown one.
Will definately be targeting them throughout the summer months.

Cheers,
